New from Portland!
Been into cars all of my life, though gravitated to domestics (Ford) most of my life. Grew up in ND and relocated to OR after college. Have owned many cars and do as much work as possible myself, occasionally having to call in professionals when I get over my head!
Drove my 1950 Ford to my wedding a year and a half ago, but sold it to finance a new house. Wife is pregnant so we finally broke down and bought her a car. After much research we settled on a 2005 Legacy Limited Wagon. If it would have been my car we would have held out for a turbo and manual, but time and inventory was against us so we ended up with a really clean one owner NA/auto that is a great car. Very recently we decided I also needed a DD that could serve kid taxi duty if required so I sold my Mustang and bought a 1993 Legacy Wagon. This one came with a swapped in JDM turbo motor with a 5MT. I am super impressed with the amenities and the car in general for being 20 years old. Can't wait to get into making some updates and changes!

Welcome to the forum! These older cars certainly have their charms. The fact that yours is wagon, turbo AND stick is an extra bonus.

Re: New from Portland!
So we had some rain yesterday and even though the PO told me the sunroof was leak free, I received a shower. Great! Also the trans makes a whine right as the clutch is being let out. Playing with throttle, release speed, etc. to see if it is me or the trans. Pilot bearing maybe? Headlights could be brighter but I do have a set of fog lights that have not been installed. Need floor mats so I will see how the 05 ones fit in it first. Stereo work so I have more than one blown speaker to listen to on my commute. I will list my proposed upgrades after I do a little more research. Truth be told, I binged on this site the week I was trying to decide to buy this car or a 91 SS, so I have already started my Leggy Education!

Hell yeah! Well if ya ever need some local help, feel free to hit me up. I live in Beaverton near Washington Square Mall. Also a shop that will take real good care of you is SSI (Superior Soobie & Import) off McLaughlin Blvd in Oregon City, the owner Rick is a genius and actually owns a turbo legacy, he's currently in the process of building a plug 'n play MegaSquirt Standalone ECU for our cars.

Re: New from Portland!
Thanks for the suggestion robertpaige!
Sunroof hasnt been leaking but then it hasnt really been raining! Ripped out all the previous stereo installation and got 5.25" mb quarts put in the back as well as a 10" Kicker, front speakers to come in the future. Sounds pretty awesome. There is some wicked wind noise so I need to check the weather stripping on the drivers door. Otherwise still need to get a mechanics once over but loving the car!

Re: New from Portland!
I am going to bet that your wind noise is coming from the triangle that holds the mirror. Use some tape to seal off the window to triangle joint and see if your wind noise goes away.

Re: New from Portland!
@lucas, any particular brand? and where did you seal it at? would love some more info.

Re: New from Portland!
The stuff we use in the military goes by our own made up part number, I did a google search and the closest thing is called
3M AC tech class b fuel tank and fuselage sealant, AC-240 with a 1/2 cure check time.
So what that means is you only have a half hour from when you mix the stuff until its thick tacky boogery shit
Supposed to last a very very long time and i have been incredibly pleased with the results so far. Not a drop in years
There are different degrees of this stuff mostly it just pretains to the cure time.
I highly recommend this to all legacy owners with a leaky sunroof. If anyone has any questions PM me.
Also be warned this stuff stinks to high heaven for a while.

@lucas, where could I find the sealant you're talking about? Maybe it can fix the leak I've never been able to stop

I've always known regular silicone to seal sunroofs fine. That aerospace stuff seems like it would be super overkill to keep rain out.
93 Touring Wagon (EJ20G 5spd Swap) -- Finally back and running strong as ever!
05 Outback 2.5XT 5spd -- Now the wife can have her SUV and get in on the turbo Legacy goodness at the same time.

super over kill that you never have to worry about doing ever again ever. Was well worth it. I highly recommend it or the common fixes

Hi and welcome!
The headlights do suck. A few things that help:
1. Improve the voltage getting to you your existing headlights...I used a relay kit.
2. Better/brighter bulbs.
3. Aim your headlights.
These 3 made a big difference.
But be aware (if like me U didn't know this) that the upgraded bulbs won't last as long as the 'stock' halogens. Also, the HID/LED kits generally don't work well w/the Legacy headlights.
Have fun,
Td

Re: New from Portland!
Just getting back to "normal" after the birth of our son last month. Looking to work on the wind noise, finish door speaker install, get a different steering wheel (stock is very "sticky"), hoping to replace the shifter/boot/etc for WRX parts, get rid of the coffee can muffler for something a little more subdued but still 3" outlet and then just giving it a good cleaning. Also noticing a stutter occasionally so researching that as well. It also deserves all the fluids getting changed and checked out!
