Has anyone made an onboard air compressor?

Post by 92wagon »

I pulled the air compressor system out of my 94 TI wagon. I was wondering if anyone had made an on board air compressor system with these parts? If so what kind of troubles did you run into if any?

If your planning on filling tires and such, you will find the OEM compressor too small. It's not designed for that much volume or to run for extended periods. The volume of air in all 4 springs is likely much less than then even just the spare tire.

I have adapted a larger, more traditional compressor to the factory mounting bracket to supply air to a small tank in the trunk. It worked well before the car got sideswiped.
