Imporing a 25-year old JDM Legacy

Now that the 89-91 (as of this post) Legacy models can potentially be imported to the United States legally, has anyone seen or heard of this actually happening?

I've browsed a number of JDM importer sites, but they don't have any Subaru models whatsoever. This isn't a surprise, as the WRX and Impreza won't be available till 2018 at the earliest.

Any recommendations for other sources or people to contact?

International Vehicle Importers seem to be real flexible and are willing to find you exactly what you're looking for (i only know this because i have a buddy who does some work out at the everett branch here in washington). Try them maybe? other than that im no help haha

I looked into them yesterday, as Matt Farah on The Smoking Tire purchased his mint R32 Skyline GT-R from their California branch. They had no Subarus in stock, but that's not to say it's not a few phone calls away.

Thanks for the tip though. If I get serious, they'll probably be the first place I contact.

Japaneseclassicsllc is another one to check out. They have Sambar on there a fair amount.

Actually, I think Josh and I spoke about this when I was in Houston. The biggest issue is they had the WRX in 93/94 so the Legacy wasn't really sought after at that point like they are here and there aren't many left. I hope that isn't true and when I am ready to buy everyone will want the WRX at that point.

The Legacy is/was a family car, in most every trim level save for the extreme versions. I'd be surprised if the Legacy didn't outsell the Impreza in Japan for many, many years, like it did here until the mid-2000s. The Legacy is more a volume-sales car, where the Impreza is, and the earlier models certainly were, economy cars.

If there aren't good stocks left in Japan, I'm sure there are some in Australia and New Zealand to dip in to, but one must definitely be willing to pay a fair price for a classic BC/BF Legacy. We're probably talking $10-15K for a mint car, delivered, legal, etc.

Worth it? To the right people, yes.

No way that much from Japan at least. I figure in the 8 range but I'd pay close to 10 with goodies. I know Miatas are going for about 6 which of course is a smaller car and less performance in stock form.

I hope I am right on this but I know I'll be happy to get my little Subaru back.

I know my brother has been watching auction sites and bid on a jdm post face sedan but was outbid and went for way too much (over 10g Canadian I believe), He ended up getting an 01 jdm sti for less than 9g landed. The larger market for 25 year old vehicles is driving the prices way up.

A friend just picked up an R34 V-Spec II Nur and won't be able to import it for over 8 years, but got it at an attainable price. I can't imagine what those will be when they're legal for Canadian import, much less United States.

I do see a Suzuki Carry local though...

Just as a question, it's a year requirement right? Or age i guess? I did consider briefly shipping over a levorg, but figured it was completely unobtainable for me.

It's 25 years, to the Month and Day, from when a vehicle was made, for the US import laws.
