How about the mod that keeps the posts from getting too wide

Post by ciper »

There is a mod that keeps posts from getting too wide to fit in your window size. Can we use it?

How does it work?

They only get too wide if someone accidentally includes a really wide component, like a really long word or hyperlink or a really wide image.

I dont know how it works, I just know its really helpful.

You are right on the circumstances, and it happens more often than you might realize.
Here is the post I read just before replying that reminded me to check this post

In my eyes, the right solution for that is for people not to post big images. :)

It could be small images, not everyone runs high resolution with the window maximized. I have dual 17 viewable screens and I still have this problem.

I don't think anything bigger than the occasional smilie or thumbnail should be in a post. Not only does it take up space in the window but it also delays proper rendering until it's downloaded, and the reader doesn't have any choice about whether or not it's downloaded.

This is the mod I think ciper's talking about:

http://www.phpbbhacks.com/viewhack.php?id=709

It says it's for versions 2.0.0 through 2.0.3 but I'm sure it'll work in 2.0.6. All it does is surround the table of posts with a 1-celled table with width specified as "100%".

So are you saying we should disable the IMG tag?

Thats a similar one, could be more than one exists because I think the name was different.

phpbb isn't backwards compatible through versions, the hack might work but there's no guarantee.

here's one that'll work: http://www.phpbbhacks.com/viewhack.php?id=1838

Too many people complain about images.

I use DIAL UP at home and have NO problem with large image posts
Even when someone posts multiple large images of a car I open the link.
