I bought this motor a few years ago from Matt Monson for a project I doubt I'll ever get started on, so maybe someone else can give it a go.

In the late 80s subaru decided to get serious about motorsports, they put together a special group to start going after some records by building special edition cars. One such car they built was a Subaru Legacy RS designed for a high speed endurance record, they claimed the world record, averaging 138mph for 18.5 days, covering 100,000km. Homologation rules meant they had to build 500 production cars (although I think they actually built closer to 800)

The group that made this car eventually became STI, and this is a motor out of one of those cars.
Closed deck 2.0L with oil squirters, massively hand ported heads, hydraulic valve lifters, sodium filled exhaust valves, forged pistons.

I bought the motor in pieces, had it machined and balanced, put in ARP headstuds (which had to be ground down to clear the cams), and it's sat in the corner of my parts room for the past 3 years.

The intake manifold isn't available but it's just a standard EJ20G manifold.

I paid a lot for this motor, and I've put quite a bit into it. I'm not interested in lowball offers at all. This is a piece of subaru history. Don't insult it.

Asking $2500

I have the rs-ra rear garnish for this too, I'll consider including that.

Someone please build an TW-RA, I never got the chance. You could make a reproduction of the Possum Bourne pre-runner wagon with this motor. 8)

This motor deserves to be backin a road car.

Man, timing on these things just won't align with me. I was broke when Matt had it for sale the first time. Was almost broke when ECS had Aerotech's motor up for sale. And now, I just finished my EJ2.35 short block. But if you can entertain something around $2000 (actually a bit less, for shipping) PM me.

Pre- or post- facelift on the rear garnish?

Good luck with the sale. I hope it finds a good home.

Actually I dont think that crank is "signed" the spelling on that is "RA RI-" the Katakana spelling for in Japanese for "rally"... I'm 99.999% sure on this... The dash after the "ri" character makes it a long syllable. Yup, I'm a language nerd :P

Looks like 'rashii' to me, but I don't think that's a name either...And even if it was a name it would have to be a foreign name, they wouldn't write a Japanese name in Katakana.

God I'd love to have this engine, I am poor though

That's what my sister told me, who is fluent in Japanese.

Not saying 100% she's right tho.

But it makes a lot more sense that they'd sign their name on a hand built, hand balanced engine, rather than mysteriously writing 'rally' on it.

No worries, I'm not fluent in Japanese, but I did sleep with a dictionary.. :P

Oh and it could be an American name, even if it was a Japanese guy building it... It's fairly common thing in Japan to have an American nick-name... But why in God's name would a Japanese guy pick Larry.. hehe that'd be about half difficult to pronounce for anyone with a native Japanese tongue. Like being stationed in Japan and being named, "William" or pronounced in Japanese "Wee riya- mu"

Yup, wish I could have my Legacy powered by that engine, best of luck!

I would love to put that beauty in Tigershark, but that's too much of my budget and I shouldn't have that much power.

Am I the only one seeing two parallel lines on the middle character? I don't think it's a 'ri' I think it's a 'shi'

It's basic Japanese, and if you don't look closely it looks like a ri, would be easy to make the mistake, and if she sees parallel lines and still thinks that then she's lying to you

Sorry I'm gonna stay out of it from here on  glws, at least you're getting a bunch of free bumps out of it.

シ = shi ラ= ra or la

if you look close there is not 2 parallel lines. i know i said there was but i was mistaken. the first symbol is fully connected, with only 2 stokes not 3.

bump for awsome engine.
