Redline 75W90NS...

Post by BAC5.2 »

NIGHT AND DAY!

My car used to grind EVERY shift to 3rd, and sometimes to 2nd.

The Group N tranny mount helped. The Poly Shifter bushing helped a LOT.

But this stuff is GREAT! I got it from OGRacing (www.OGRacing.com) this morning and just finished doing the tranny (doing the diff tomorrow).

I click in and out of gear with ease. No hard shifts, just buttery smooth.

I paid $56 for 6 quarts of 75W90NS and 1 Liter of ATE SuperBlue brake fluid.

Haven't done the brakes yet, but how my transmission feels now, it was worth $56 just for that.

The job was so easy, you'd have to be stupid not to be able to do it.

The gearbox is a lot quieter now, which surprised me, as I thought the car was gonna be noisy as all getout.

Gotta give this stuff a 10/10 rating.

Definately do it!

Noice. Maybe I'll save up and put some in in place of the GL4 MT-90 I've got now.

Definately do it! I don't know WHAT was in my tranny before, but it came out BLACK.

My tranny feels like it was BRAND new.

Vikash, you know how smooth it shifted before, now it feels even better!

I know how smooth it shifted before? I don't remember shifting your car...

But yeah, "like new" is how I felt about my transmission after putting the MT-90 in. Before I put the MT-90 in I'd grind most shifts into 2nd, and now it never grinds no matter how hard I shift.

If 75W90NS works just as well, I should definitely use that and get better protection for my differentials.

Maybe I can just call the MT-90 a flush. ;)

When you came over after I did the GD shifter bushing when you picked up my stock turbo. You didn't drive, but you ran the shifter through the gates in the driveway.

Oh, yeah... But the test of shifting smoothness is a hard acceleration run with shifts at redline, not sitting idling in a driveway. :D

I still get grind between 1-2 shifts if I try to shift fast. I'm not convinced the problem is totally fluid, but I'm not sure if fluid is also contributing to the problem.

Give the fluid a good 3000 miles to "break in" and then give us some feedback. Almost all fluid feels like magic when you first put it in since the old stuff is usually pretty bad.

There's a few more fluids I'd like to try, but at 50 bucks a pop for new diff fluid it starts getting expensive to "test" fluids.

THAWA - Right. So it'd be nice to put some GL5 in. The difference is basically that GL5 has twice as many extreme pressure additives, which are necessary for hypoid bevel differentials like ours.

Because in general EP additives also cause difficulty shifting.

What vrg3 said, and how many broken 5mt's are there compared to worn out syncros? It's not like we are pushing the hp limits of the 5mt.... yet
