Kevlar clutch disk

Post by rallyak »

I have had a Kevlar disk in my car for 75K and recently pulled out my transmission out because of the front seal was leaking. My findings were zero wear on contact points on the pressure plate or flywheel. My set up is n/a 2.2 with 2.5 gt pressure plate Exedy # fjc524 with a Kevlar disk. You need the extra clamping power of the 2.5 pp to make this work. If not the 2.2 pp will slip for awhile but will eventually will grab ( it slipped for about 200 miles even on cruise) I wouldn't use 2.2 pp. As for the disk, my local clutch shop rebuilt my old disk and put Kevlar friction material on it for about 50$. He told me it should last 5 times longer, after inspection I believe him. So if you go with Kevlar disk higher clamping load is a must.

This one is oiled soaked but no slipping.

You can still feel the machine work on the pressure plate.

I didn't feel any difference, still pretty grippy. I have one in my wife's also but with a n/a 2.2 I don't think I can break it or even get it to slip.

All the clutches I've replaced in never been a worn out disk. It's always worn out pp and throw out bearing. I guess what I'm really saying is I don't abuse it much, even when I bust thru 3 foot snow banks and plow people's driveways with my car.
