in no particular order:
dont hit any cones. but if you think you do, DO NOT look back to see if you did.
slow in fast out.
get your braking done before you enter the turn.
get to the site as early as possible.
walk the course w/a group of people.
walk the course again by yourself.
have fun.
keep your hands light on the steering wheel and dont get your arms crossed up. imagine that there is a barrier running from 12 on the clock to six on the clock and try to keep the left hand on the left side of the wheel and the right hand on the right side of the wheel.
look ahead. look where you want to go. dont look where you dont want to go. sounds silly and obvious but it really helps you keep your focus.
dont worry about hitting the rev limiter, it wont hurt your car for a few seconds.

Hope you had lots of fun at your 1st event... don't worry about placement when you are starting out.
Your progressive improvement in time is a clear indicator that you are improving your driving skills.
Play around with tire pressures at your next event to get an idea of how it affects the handling.
