Took the legacy to the track today..

Post by scuzzy »

Boy I'm sunburnt.

Here are the times. I'm in Novice class, dead last - this will be my second autox event - evar.

So they tell me the 'Total' number is a calculation of your best time with the consideration of your class as to level the playing field (IE: Taking the cars out of the equation)

Is this true?

If so, how well am I doing?

Take a look:
http://www.trscca.com/trscca/results/061806_fin.htm

Some comments from today:
"What the hell did you do to this thing to put you in SM?" - Driver
"It's the Doom Wagon" - Announcer
"The Wagon of Doom is completing the course now" - Announcer
"Oh my god look at the bodyroll" - Yep, announcer.
"Looks like he's getting the doom wagon sideways. Oooh nice save."

My tire pressures: 50psi front cold, 45psi rear cold. - first four laps
Last five laps I ran 50psi front cold, 48psi rear cold - The tires heated up about 50F once I made a pass around the track, so the front went up to 55PSI and the rear went to 50PSI - same for the last five passes.

From what I can tell, I'm at about the right pressure I need to be running on the stock 14" steelies for the track; it doesn't push very much at all, infact it's got a tendency to get sideways anytime I'm off throttle. Slamming on the brakes makes it worse - or better, since usually I end up doing that when going around a corner, and it rotates really nice.

I've locked all four tires up all nine runs in one perticular very tight corner - first time for that; I've never locked them up before.

Anyway, comments? suggestions? I'm all for self improvement, but my lack of power has really put me into the wall with this car, and I'm itching like crazy to get the turbocharger on. I think it'll help get me up to speed in the straights; alot of which this course had.

I did my first autox yesterday, too. I doubt that locking up all four wheels is the fastest way through that corner! Chalk on your tire sidewall will help you gauge your tire pressures. If there are any fast Subaru drivers down there get with them to learn the techniques... then get tons of seat time.

...well, that's what they told me anyway.

I'm going to my first AutoX this coming weekend. There's a school on the 24th and the event is on the 25th. The place is almost three hours away, though, so hopefully I don't break my car there or something.

Well, this perticular corner wasn't really a corner, it's a U-Turn and the straight away leading to it is.. well, straight, and fast.

I'm told now that it was a horsepower course after the event, and that pretty much plays out true looking at my results.

I couldn't help locking up the tires besides taking the high speed part of the course slower (I was at the top of 2nd gear - so what is that, about 55mph)

It felt good, though, having to stand on the brakes hard enough to slide the car sideways.

She'll be fast one day
