When pulling the engine out of a '91 Subaru T, I was told to keep
the torgue converter attached to the tranny. This sound good...less
to put back together. I understand you must first take the starter
out and then inside the bell housing there are 3 bolt to remove? I
couldn't see them in there. Am I on the right track? Everything else
is removed/loose and ready to go.
Any advice on this and rebuilding recommendations would be
appreciated.
Thanks!

Well I would seem to agree with leaving it attached. The torque
converter sort of slides over, then to the side and "locks" into place.
It is probably easier to undo the bolts from the hole on the passenger
side of the engine through the little access hole.
