Hi everyone, I've got some questions about the sweet legacy. I have
a 91 Legacy LS and I've started to do some basic performance mods
such as a OBX tunable exhaust and a K&N air filter. Is thier any
other mods that i could do to squeeze some more power out of my
engine, can I put a turbo on it? Anyways does anyone know if thiers a
bodykit for it. Please email me back if you do. My car has been
doing some damage on the strips up here in New England and I need
some hp now. So far I've earned a 14-6 kill record and ive been
showing those damn civics and jettas that subaru's can compete.
Anyways if anyone has any ideas for the car please tell me.

just curious.....is that tunable exhaust dealy the thing you stick
in your exhaust to restrict back-pressure, and change the sound? And
yes, you can turbo your car. It will take a lot of money. Also,
there are no body kits available for our cars, only a few mythical
ones from Japan.

Yes the tunable exhaust does exactly that its perfect for driving
long distances so the vibration doesnt give you a head ache. That
sucks about a body kit but o well. I did find a turbo from a 92
Legacy turbo at the junkyard today for 600, should I buy it? (good
price).

So your roasting civic's and jetta's with a pretty much stock
normally aspirated (N/A) Legacy, sweet! Welcome to the gang. I got a
91 Turbo sedan, which has a 2.2 Turbo engine in it. First of all you
mentioned your thinking of turboing your normally aspirated model.
Some things to consider are: your motor is open deck (worse for
turboing), the actual 2.2 turbo motor from Subaru is closed deck
(stonger block, with better heat dissipation characteristics).
Because Turbo and N/A engines are 2.2L many think they are identical
engines, just that the Turbo model has a turbo thrown on. Not true,
the turbo motor has advantages such as being closed deck, having more
oil pinholes throughout the engine, stronger piston rings, beefed up
crank bearings. Along with having much different exhaust and cooling
systems. What I'm trying to tell you is instead of turboing your N/A
engine, you should just get the 2.2 Turbo motor from a wreck. You
could get the motor for say only twice as much than just the turbo
unit from a wrecker. Ok now for body kit stuff. Very little exists
for the 1st gen legacy. Supposedly things do exist in Japan, I have
only seen an aftermarket front bumper lip fitted to a Japanese Turbo
sedan. BUT, in Austrailia and Europe legacy turbo's (Liberty RS's in
Austrailia) came with plastic side skirts and rear bumper lips stock
from the factory (along with an improved front bumper that luckily we
here in north America got too). Both can be purchased from Wreckers
in both areas. I got quoted 80 Austrailian dollars for each side
skirt and 120 for the rear bumper lip. The rear bumper lips will bolt
onto the bumper, whereas the side skirts will have to taped on or
clip holes cut into the rocker panels on our US/Canadian Spec
Legacys. To see how it looks go the the Photos section and look at
the last picture or a pure white legacy with nice rims called nice
ride (I think). Hope this helps.

Yeah most of the imports up here are just dressed up no major
performance mods except mufflers and shitty ractive intakes. Thiers
a 92 Turbo Sedan which is for sale as a parts car for 1000. Not
really sure if this is good but I really want the engine since Ive
gotten a lot of feed back about that. I also want to find a decent
turbo hood or I might put a wrx hood scoop on mine, I think that
would look funny though. Does anyone know if the turn signals on my
91 can be mounted in the side corner lights like the 94's. I'd like
to try to put a 94 bumber on it to. Anyone know If thiers a upper
strut bar kit for the Legacy, since I've lowered it Ive gotten a lot
more body flex in the corners. Anyways does anyone know if a bypass
valve can be installed on the intake? I've heard that turbos can
gain about 10 psi boast from this. Thiers a company that sells
universal side skirts and I'm considering at getting a pair. Also
anyone know where I can find some Subaru rally stickers? I'd like to
put some on my car when its finished.

1000 for a a legacy turbo is pretty good. If the engineis good. Take
it! You can also take more things like the brakes, and the interior.
Yes, the side corners can be wired to blink if you put on a later
model front bumper (though I think later model legacy's 92-94 have
slightly different shapes and arn't a 100% fit). Theres a guy on the
group , his name is David Carter hes looking for buyers to buy the
2001 Impreza RS bumpers he made to fit on 89-91 legacys, If you want
a nice bumper talk to him. Don't know about the strut tower brace
though. When you are talking about a turbo bypass valve do you mean a
blow-off valve? A blow off valve just ejects the excess boost in the
system while shifting or quickly jumping off the throttle, to protect
your engine from over boosting. It adds no power or extra boost. Who
makes these universal side skirts your talking about? Do they have a
website?

Im going to make an offer on the legacy tommorrow, can the turbo
legacy be converted to twin turbos. Anyways yes the blow off valve
is what I was wondering about, thx for summing it up. The Impreza
bumper would be cool since Im trying to modify mine to look sort of
like an Impreza. The company that makes the after market side skirts
is GT styling my friend put the same pair on a 94 Legacy Wagon and
they look pretty good. Thiers a website called
www.http://performance.autopartsperformance.com/ they have a nice
section for Legacys with nitrous setups and some other stuff. If
anyone knows where I can find a rear hatch and right rear tail light
in Norhtern New England please let me know.
