90-94 Kartboy Short-throw shifters

Post by Matt Scicchitano »

Well, I just recieved a few e-mails from Tom at Kartboy Kustoms about
a short-throw shifter for the 90-94 Legacys. As soon as I get a spare
shifter out to him, he is going to evaluate it, hopefully design a
new one, and then send it back to me to try out. If all goes well and
if their is a demand for them(which I think there is), he will
probably be able to start making them for us. Cost has yet to be
determined simply because he is not 100 percent sure that he can make
them and plus the shifter is different then his current Impreza
shifters, but if all goes well, I would assume they would be close to
if not the same as the Impreza shifters which are about $100.

For those of you who don't know, Impreza owners have been absolutely
raving about his shifters for the last year and they are said to feel
better then the STi shifter and linkage combo, and rival that of the
Syms complete shift kit( the Kartboy is only the shifter, not the
linkage which doesn't have much to do with the short-throw effect
anyway), all at nearly a third of the cost. I will keep you guys
posted on how things go.

Hey guys I know I've said this before on the USMB, but I would love to
convert my auto to a a manual, if we can get short-throw shifters that would
be even better. Anyone have any comments on project....?

Thanks

Josh

I'm gonna have to have JC do it for me in the next few months. More
power and performance demand a stronger and more efficient
transmission.

$2500 may sound like a lot but for labor, parts and one-day
turnaround, it really can't be beat. Consider that a rebuilt AT with
labor is likely to cost close to $2000, and even finding a Turbo 5-
speed is a chore, much less parts, i think it's a very good deal.

If the Kartboy deal goes through i'd just have them install it as the
kit goes in and maybe save a few bucks :)
