Found Legacy Turbo, NEED ADVICE!!

Post by Ryan Hutchins »

I've also posted this on the Legacy Forum, but I decided to post here
so more of you can see it.
I'm probably going to go look at this car tomorrow, but before I do I
wanted to know what all the Subie experts think.

Also are there any special things that I should look for when I go
look at it?

Okay, I found a '91 Legacy Turbo, here's the details.

First of all its a Canadian car, 1991, 176,000km( or 110,000miles), 5
spd, red, asking price is $5900 canadian( or $4000US)
Clutch: replaced at 100,000km
2nd owner
T-belt: done at 90km
Paint: he says its faded around the hood scoop and might need new
paint.
New tires
Rust: some small rust bubbles around a wheel well, but very small.
Suspension: new struts awhile ago, original springs.
Brakes: says they're good
Sunroof has 5inch long crack in it, Clarion stereo won't work, maybe
a
lose wire.
Dealer maintained with full service records.

To me it sounds like it nees some work and the price seems a little
much. The bad paint thing, i was thinking maybe a good compounding,
polish and wax would make it look like new.

My question is what do all you Subie experts think? Should i drive
3hrs to look at it, or wait??

Thanks

for all the stuff that isn't working....4000 is a little pricey....I'd say
see if you can get him to knock $500-$1000 off...but I guess you gotta see
the car first....but that's my opinion

He said he's willing to go down to $5500canadian or about $3700US,
but
i think he's kinda in a rush to sell it so maybe he'll go lower.
Thanks for the help, any more opinions???

I'm not sure how plentiful the Legacy Turbo 5spds are in Canada, but in the
states they are as rare as teeth on a woodpecker. If you truly want a Legacy
Turbo 5spd, I don't think it's a bad price, especially if he has the service
records for the car. Naturally you are going to have to do some work to it,
but you're not paying for a brand new car either. I say go for it, but then
again, I've been a big Legacy Turbo fan for years so I'm slightly biased ;)
When I bought mine, although price was an issue, it was more about how much
the car was actually worth to me, again, because that was the only car I
wanted, nothing else. So while some people called me crazy for paying near 6
grand for a 8 year old car with almost 100,000 miles on it(at the time), I
was willing to pay more.

I just bought my 93 Turbo Wagon for $7500 with 85k miles.

I feel i paid a good price, regardless of the problems it has.

I wanted the car, i got the car, no regrets. There are fewer Touring
Wagons than anything and well, i love it!

We'd be happy to have another member in the club :) Just make sure
you're willing to make repairs. It's not a new car, so you're
obviously not buying it because you're expecting a trouble-free
ownership as it already has 100k miles gone by, but you're aware of
the fact that, with care, it'll go another 100 plus.

Good Luck!

HI

i am a Canadian and i bought a 91 turbo last December. I paid $7000
canadian. it only had 76000k on it. and had never seen a winter. Runs like a
top. since then i replaced the rear shocks (the day i bought it), and have
had a wheel bearing replaced which led to a ABS sensor replacement. other
then that it's is the most fun car i have driven, love the turbo ( first
year for the Turbo Legacy, they say the rear suspension was used for one
year only so that may make parts expensive (don't know yet)

you didn't say if it was auto txion or not 5 speed is better. but have a
look it might be a gereat car. remember that it is almost 10 years old and
stuff is bound to war out, fail and otherwise break.in Nova Scotia that is
becoming a old car. salt is a right bugger.

hope that helps

Well, i decided not to go look at this car cause I just don't have
the
cash for it, so i'm gonna put my car up for sale and hopefully when i
sell my car, this guy will still have his. Its a bit of a gamble, but
I really have no other choice.

Thanks for the advice ppl.
