BSOD would have to write a "legacy of Rob" thread...

Dang...this thread too?

I don't have much to update. I am arranging to borrow a local donor car to test this on. I won't make it available until I have solid data. Bench data is one thing, miles on a real car is another. Hopefully I will have the car this weekend. No promises though. :)

I'm in Seattle through the weekend. We're going to come to YOU! Now where is Puyallup from here? haha ;)

J/K Rob. We appreciate the efforts and your desire to make things right before they ship. Good luck with the testing.

I posted an update on the first page.

Thanks to Drew for dropping his car off yesterday. I have been out of town a lot last month. Hopefully I can wrap up testing of the prototype in the next couple of weeks.

Another update void of real news has been added to the first post :)

I thought you all would enjoy this picture. Yes that logic analyzer is about 10 years older than the car. lol. Have I mentioned recently how much I hate the fact that the ECU is right under the dash?

Have I mentioned how much I hate the location of the ECU as well? Not only it's whereabouts but the fact that it's jammed up there and pretty much requires disconnecting of other connectors below it just to remove it and the screws are ridiculously hard to get to.

I'm interested in this as well. But only if it will simplify my current dual ignitors-under-the-dash setup.

I finally figured out why the proto wasn't working correctly wired into the car. It was a tough nut to crack. Basically what it comes down to is that I didn't properly characterize the signals used between the ECU and igniter and made assumptions based on my experience with Toyota parts. Once I figured out why the chip wasn't behaving correctly, I dug out the O-scope and verified, which I should have done first thing! It is an example of sloppy engineering; bad on me! I need to add a couple electrical components and it should be good. Parts are on order and will be able to pick up testing in a few days. I also found the correct source for ECU connector crimp terminals. This will greatly simplify installation.

Awesome!

Would you mind sharing your source for ECU connector crimp terminals?

Hurry, only 30k left in stock :D

You need a decent crimp tool to go along with it.

Thanks Rob. Is there a specific crimp tool for these type of connectors?

BTW,

With the correct part numbers you can get all the connector housings and the ECU PCB mount connector as well. I don't have all the part numbers in front of me, but I picked up a spare of the 26 pin connector to verify. That part is;

Yes this does mean cheaper DIY patch harness are possible.

This is the crimp tool I bought. It seems to do a decent job. I am sure there are better ones, but this was fairly inexpensive.

That's good to know about the connectors & housings. That will definitely give some additional options for making your own patch harnesses.

I've got a craftsman crimp tool with several different crimp jaws that would probably work. I just didn't know if there was a specific tool for these little connectors.

lol my car died in heavy traffic again going up to seatac to take my friends to the airport. The road up there is pretty unforgiving with it's horrible bumps.

After yet another complete circuit re-design, I am happy to report my prototype is up and running. I don't want to jump the gun and call it done until I get some good road miles first, but all looks solid. It starts, idles and revs perfectly on both the EJ22T stock ECU and the EJ20G ECU. Once I am satisfied after driving it I will finish up my PCB design and order parts for production.

Good the hear Rob. I've sent you a couple emails and a texts and I haven't heard from you in weeks. I need to know if I can run a twin turbo legacy JDM MAF on my car with your tune. I know it's a slightly larger diameter MAF and I don't know if it reads differently or not. I should have it any day and I want to put it in my car because it will allow me to go back to a factory airbox setup and ditch my cone filter.

Hey Kimo,

I was out of town nearly all of last week. I'll ping you on email later. In general, no don't use a different MAF, and the stock ej20g green MAF fits the stock airbox just fine. I have swapped one in myself on Drew's car. Perhaps it deserves it own thread and I can post pictures.

That's the problem, I'm not using the stock airbox since I have under-the-manifold intake. I'll email you.
