Vss issue

Post by rallyak »

I've been having an intermittent problem with my vss in the dash cluster. It's not the cable, speedo works fine but when the cel come on I just hit the dash right above the cluster and it starts working again. My question is could it be a bad solder connection since I've already resolder the hvac. Or maybe the sensor is wore out, I haven't had time to take it out to look at it.

You're certain the CEL every time is the VSS? Sounds possibly like a loose/bad connection to one of the plugins to the cluster.

I've cleared the code every day last week and that's the only one that pops up. It seams to work fine for the first hour or two then the cel comes on, tap the dash and it may work for 10 or 50 miles no real consistency. I will try to pull the cluster and check the connections.

If you look at the pictures of my disassembled combination meter, there really isn't any solder joints on the reed switch. However the flexible circuit on the back might have a crack or something in it, which might be the cause of your problem.
