The leds wont be as bright as stock lights and the bulb housings wont fit perfectly. You will have to trim each one- this is a warning- as i did some led replacements. As for the bulb type and size- pm me tomorrow evening and i will grab a spare cluster and count each one
Yes I have too many Subarus
No you can't have one

If you can solder, get led strips and put them in the cluster. I did that and its a lot brighter than stock.

I actually just installed red LEDs today and they look fantastic!! i was just used plug and play led replacement bulbs and had zero issues, they are brighter and fit perfectly.

Here is what i bought:
2x of these http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo ... -base/206/

4x of these http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo ... -base/228/

^no "hot spots" where the led light is brighter in some spots on the cluster than others? I had that when I tried led bulbs, been wanting to try strips

Kris, It's not that much of a pain to get the cluster out at all. You'll want to disconnect the speedometer cable at the transmission that way you can pull the cable out of the instrument cluster opening when you go to re-install the cluster. It's easier to get the Dashboard trim piece out if the steering wheel and column trim pieces are off, but it's not necessary.

There are some slight hot spots at the top of the dials but its not super noticeable. I actually ended up putting little opaque condoms over the big leds which pretty much fixed it. if i were to do it again i think i might get dimmer 194 bulbs.

Oh man, there's 2 Kris'..... uh oh, this could get to be a tricky conversation lol.

legacylok, do you have a picture on here of your cluster with the lights on? Do you think if you ordered any color led it would over power the green color in the cluster itself?

haha I noticed that, there aren't many of us that spell it the correct way :)

These are the best pictures I could take of it, the camera really doesn't capture it well. it looks way better in person and a lot more even strangely. I have no idea about other colors but I would imagine the closer you get to the green color the more it will effect it.

Off topic...

F that, the CORRECT way is with a Ch NOT K. And that's the bottom line cuz Stone Cold said so. That's how MY name is spelled, so I have to be right.

:-P

Anyways, Yes I'm glad that I can get rid of the shitty green on my dash.

Here's my led converted cluster, white strips soldered in.
This is full brightness

Here's some pictures of how I ran the strips and where positive and negative are.

I did this in a 93. If anyone needs any advice, feel free to ask me. I've done three conversions using strips.

Oh that looks great! I want to do this!

I think I should have a look in there anyway at some point, when its below freezing my speedo jitters a bit and makes a strained mechanical whirring sound above 35mph or so.

It's normal for the speedo cables to make noise when it's really cold. Mine did that when I lived in PA and my Impreza does it now too.

Oh snap that's normal? Not an indication I need to get in there and spray some wd40 or something down the cable innards...?

Cool, thanks Josh! :D

I guess it's normal for older subies around this vintage with some mileage on them. I personally wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

You can pull the inner cable out from the bottom of the cable if you wanted and could lube it with some light grease or oil.
