Help with headlight beam pattern/aim

Post by Danteandsoob »

So I just got new headlight bulbs, still need to clean and clearcoat the actual headlights, but that's besides the point.

My beam pattern is all funky now, and I was wondering if anyone's had this problem? This is what it looks like:

This is low beam, but both beams have that weird 45* above the horizon, both on the upper right.

An my fix to this? It's a '93 with 9003/H4's

I guess it's normal. Seriously, I hate that kink! Anyone know how to get rid of it?

Not only is it normal, it's required to be there by the DOT.

It's for illuminating signs on the right side of the road, but still keeping glare out of the eyes of oncoming drivers on the left.

Interesting, I didn't realize that. Well I guess for more lighting I'll just add relays.

That's very interesting about the beam pattern, I never knew that.

Yeah, the stock headlights really don't have very good output. I am planning on adding a light bar and some PIAA lights because I drive a twisty dark canyon road every day, lots of deer and wild boar to watch out for.

I feel your pain there...the area I live in has more deer than people I think...and what I did to my 91 headlights was go to led conversion bulbs which are much better on low beam where most of us drive most of the time. I of course polished up the plastic lenses too in an effort to get the best possible light. It's working well enough its considerably better than my 2008 Mazda miata with led conversion.
