Clock Spring & Column Switch Compatibility

Post by Bobsaget »

I'm wondering if anybody has any knowledge about clock springs and column switches from 2nd gen Legacy's fitting and functioning in our cars.

I've recently snapped my clock spring wires (horns stopped working, air bag light, and no cruise control) :? and my column switch has been broken since I got the car so I figured I would replace both at once while the wheel is off.
However, I can only seem to find these parts out of 2nd gen Legacy's. Anyone know if they are interchangeable between 1st and 2nd gens??

I would really appreciate any input and advice! Thanks!!

You should tell us what year and model/sub model you have. US? Canadian? South American? etc.

Of course! I completely spaced that. Thank you.
It's a USDM 1994, awd, N/ALegacy L wagon. Does that cover the necessary info? Let me know if I need to specify anything else. Thanks for the reply.

Sounds like no-one on here has tried it. Get one for cheap and let us know!

A second gen Legacy clockspring will plug right in and work BUT the airbag connectors will be different. I had a 98 Outback clockspring in my 94 Legacy. If it was me, I'd splice in the old airbag connectors to the new clockspring and call it good.

Hi, everyone! So sorry to have missed all of the replies given! I didn't realize anyone had posted since my last reply. I appreciate the help. I was fortunate, though, to eventually find a spring out of a '94 TW so it all plugged right in. Thanks again, everyone!
