Stop Light Indicator

Post by patcal »

I had the cluster yesterday changing allot of the bulbs. One I tested was the STOP LIGHT bulb. It was bad so I changed it but it does not come on when I turn the key to on. Is it supposed to? How could I check the sytem without re-pulling the cluster?

I think that STOP LIGHT bulb is to tell you a brake light is out.
So you should be able to just pull a brake light bulb out and step on the brake. That STOP LIGHT should then light up.

I don't think I've ever seen it on any other time.

Thanks. I thought it was supposed to come on when you first turn on the ignition. I will try pulling the bulb.

I tried pulling a bulb but no light. Now that I look further, my 94 owners manual does not mention the light. Maybe it was discontinued for 94. The 90 owners manual I found online has it. Anyway, thanks for the input.

I just went out to look, as my wife had the car when I replied yesterday.

It does light up when the ignition is first turned on.
Mine is a '91 sedan. So perhaps you're correct and they did get rid of it later on, or since yours is a wagon, maybe they are different from sedans (for whatever reason).
