rev chip roll call

Post by ride_child »

Who currently has a stage 2 rev chip in or has successfully had one in the past? I'm trying to get mine going and I'm having a hell of a time. Trying to pick someone's brain

Hi,
Have you read the Revtronix thread.

It's been a few years, but I helped test this and used it before going to the RT EJ20G.

yea ive read through that a few times, i even got a pdf of the original manual from josh. i had an issue with my 02 sensor that was causing my rev chip to wreck havoc, so i took it out and fixed it. no cel's, i plugged my laptop in and im getting a reading form the 02 sensor but the car is still driving like crap. how long does it take for the ecu to figure out the new setup after an ecu reset?the manual says for 50 miles i believe, mike was telling me 50-100, basically i need to figure out if this is it trying to adjust to everything or if something else is fucked and im hurting the engine and should get it out before bnw

So....it drive's OK w/OUT the chip installed?
What does 'driving like crap' mean?
50-100 miles for 'optimum setup' but it should drive OK after letting it warm-up @ idle and then drive it semi-normally for a few minutes >>> no full-throttle or heavy boost sessions.

Go take Highway 410 to Crystal and back and it should be good.

Check your knock sensor?

What's the laptop show for the Octane Factor?

Does your car Idle OK? With or w/OUT the chip? Mine never idled perfectly w/the chip.

And did it ever run OK w/the Chip?

So I bought it from Mike who filled me in a little on how touchy it is. So I made sure I had no codes or cel's. I replaced the knock sensor and checked the wiring, cya, maf, o2 sensor and checked the wiring, coil pack, iacv, tps, and cpv. Literally everything and checked for vacuum leaks, at idle I was running about -16 on my boost gauge. Running like scrap means it's driving like it's super lean, the vacuum st idle is -11 ish. It sounds like it has a misfire when I rev it up, even if I let it warm up to operating temp. I've tried this chip before but I had some o2 sensor issues and it was running lean, now I've confirmed fixed the o2 and it's running exactly the same as before when it was running lean, I did reset the .edu and the codes are gone. My number is 2067152023, if it's easier to shoot me a text

Octane factor is 75%. I am noticing that no matter what the reading from the o2 sensor is 300 or 310 mv, never changes outside of thst

Mike Tracy?

Actually, I can type a lot better than text.
- Just to be clear - you wrote that with NO CHIP it idles @ -16 on the boost gauge and RUNS PERFECT, correct?

- Your Ej22T is 100% stock? I wonder if the Chip is for 440/480cc injectors?

- edit...you have the revscan SW...

And I can't recall...does the chip fit in a 'holder' that then plugs into the ECU? If so, I'd double-check that ALL the pins on the chip are properly inserted and the holder is 100%.

edit: found pics in this THREAD

- And you've tried it w/both the Normal and Power switches? Or ensured the jumper is installed correctly?

If the OF never changes, then something's messed up....seems that issue is documented on here somewhere....

Re: rev chip roll call

Yes that first statement is correct.
The tune is for 550's according to Mike.
I have the revscan software and a cable.
I'll check to see if the chip is seated properly, hadn't thought of that, but I have tried it with the switch both on and off. Jumper is on right.
I didn't really look to see if it changed or not, I'll look closer this evening. What's it supposed to look like? Is that a normal o2 reading?

Yea Mike Tracy, he said his setup ran better than a robtune with 550s and a td05, which.is what I'm running.

As I have no clue what your setup includes or has been:

- More clarification: Did you run this w/the RT successfully? Otherwise, how do you know the the 550's worked w/OUT the Rev chip?

- If you swapped in the 550's AND the Rev chip, you're using the '92+ NA rails, correct? Your 550's were tested b4 install?

- not being a jerk (much), just need to make sure we're on the same page as sometimes the little/easy stuff is overlooked.
I didn't really look to see if it changed or not, I'll look closer this evening. What's it supposed to look like? Is that a normal o2 reading?
Regarding the OF? It's supposed to be 100% when 'optimum'. It should slowly work its way to that while driving/learning.
Don't kwow about the O2 reading. :-(

I have not run it successfully, but Mike did. I had the 550s flow tested like I do before I use any injectors. Yes I have to use those rails to properly install them and yes they were flow tested.

Re: rev chip roll call

Post by wtdash »

Per the Revtronix Manual you're also running the JECS MAF, correct?
STAGE 2
The Stage 2 chip is intended for vehicles with intercooling and mild turbo upgrades. Peak boost is increased to 14
psi (16+ psi in Power Mode) for a major increase in performance without a loss of fuel economy.
STAGE 2 – RECOMMENDED MODIFICATIONS STAGE 2 - MODE CONFIGURATION
2.5” or larger high-flow catback exhaust Normal Mode 91 octane minimum
2.5” or larger high-flow downpipe Power Mode 93 octane minimum
Modified factory air intake (resonator and snorkel delete)
Intercooler (air-air or air-water)
JECS Mass Air Flow Sensor
At minimum, the intercooler and JECS MAF are required. To run in Power Mode, all recommended modifications
should be performed. To run the TD04 chip in Power Mode, injectors should be upgraded to a minimum 440cc
flow rate.

Was just chatting with Gabe and that's not a normal reading from the o2 sensor so it's either a shitty sensor or somehow my injectors managed to get clogged in ridiculously short period of time.

Is this a wide band or narrow band O2 sensor? I'm assuming it's a narrow band if the reading is in milivolts. What happens if you unplug the O2 sensor?

Re: rev chip roll call

Ok so, i kept on getting a check engine light for my o2 sensor pretty much all the way to and from wcss. Check it with revscan and it was bouncing between 300 and 310 like it has been. I unplug it and check with revscan it was still doing the same thing, so I left the o2 unplugged and plugged in my other ecu and check with revscan and it was pinned at 300, no movement to 310. I plug the o2 back in and go driving around checking revscan. The only time it moved to 310 is when I was at wot, and my fuel trims were 0 in gear and short term went to 4.7 percent in neutral. As long as I drove it tho, there was no check engine light or code, which the other ecu did...
I have a new o2 sensor on order and I'll trouble shoot more.
I guess I'm curious to know what the o2 sensor reading should look like when I'm driving around, this is just the stock narrowband

still curious to know what a correct narrowband reading should look like driving around. hard to believe no one on here can provide a general idea haha
put in a brand new sensor today and the reading is still pinned at 300 mv. so im going to safely rule out its not a thing with the sensor itself.
i may just try rewiring the sensor directly to the ecu with some new shielded wire, again haha
for real tho, im losing my mind!!!!!!!

Kris,

Did you ever figure this out?

the narrow band reading should really cycle back and forth between a higher and lower voltage.

i bought a new daily and have been super busy with work and school. the wagon has been sitting in the garage for the past 6 months.
i havent figured it out yet. my next idea is to get a 4 wire o2 sensor and make my own ground or tie it in to my grounding kit. since ive tried multiple ecu's, multiple brand new sensors from 2 different companies, and even ran a new shielded wire from the 02 sensor directly to the ecu, the fact that it might not be grounding properly through my aftermarket downpipe is the only thing left i can think of.

Yeah, a 4-wire that would allow you to do your own grounding would be my next step. Hopefully that's it.

i was talking with cj the other day and he was thinking that maybe i had a bad revtronix chip and that maybe if i switch over to my rob tune setup that might work. he ended p giving me a self fabbed patch cable co i can make my ignition adapter, i have a couple ignitiors to use, which is the last piece i need for my rob tune. we will see.
right now im getting parts together for a 22t stroker/20k build. :)
