1g DSM BOV?

Post by 91White-T »

The stock 1g DSM BOV and pipe looks like it might be close to fitting, now the only problem is finding out whether the BOV is open at idle.. Does anyone happen to know if it is?

i cant answer your question but the DSM guys are swapping out their stock bypass valves for stock WRX valves so swapping for one from a DSM probably isnt the best of ideas.

The 1G DSM BOV is the most copied BOV on the market. After mitsubishi developed it, nissan patterned one after it and Subaru started using it as well.

because the 1g BOV leaks from the factory, they "crush" the BOV. This seals it up so no more leak. In my expirience, the stock WRX BOV does the same thing. the stock Legacy turbo BOV performs better then the wrx bov when you're mildly into the car. when/if you start going crazy, just upgrade whole hog and get a greddy or tial unit..

I have a 1g BOV on my Talon, I just bought a stock wrx bov for the legacy, they are nearly identical. There are a lot of guys using uncrushed 1g bovs and they say there good till more than 20psi. You probably wont need to crush it if your only running around 15psi. There is a kit for the 1g bov that will allow you to modify it for higher boost without crushing it, I'll try and find out who makes it. I beleive scc did a test of BOV's a few months ago and the stock 1g bov held its own with the best of the aftermarket valves.

SUBARU WRX DV

The OEMs know a good thing when they see it. Despite the different inlet flange and discharge fitting, the WRX DV appears to be the same one used by Mitsubishi on its 1G DSM. We're not aware of anybody crushing thier tops yet, but there sure are a lot of DSM owner purchasing WRXs....

But does it leak at idle, because I plan on venting to the atmosphere...

Why do you want to vent to the atmosphere if you don't mind me asking?

its one in the morning here in ny, but i had to try unhooking the return pipe on the bypass valve, it worked as for venting to the atmosphere was concerned, but it didnt sound like a whoosh or a whistle, but like a rachety sound, it kept stalling prolly cuz i didnt plug the intake hole, i hooked the hose back up cuz it didnt do much. Can i replace the bypass valve with an aftermarket blow off valve, as long as i plug the intake hole, i really need to know if it will keep stalling even if i plug the hole, cuz then ill try something different. please help me

Do a search on the subject. You won't find yourself stalling but you may find other drivability or engine management issues.
