Best turbo for EJ22T??
I have been seriously considering a different turbo for my '92 SS. I have talked with some folks about it but never remember exactly which ones to look for. I would prefer a comparable to stock size, ball bearing turbo. I have looked and looked and am willing to look more, if someone knows where to point me. Thanks a bunch everyone!

The vf34 has been on for almost two months, and at 14 boost the performance is likely better than a WRX but not that of an STI .
Engine mods now include a stand-alone ECU, fmic, Koyo rad., and Profec B boost control.
The fit is good, but the 90 degree intake elbow required machining off the intake flange and welding on two cast aluminum elbows. One is to the vertical and the other connects to the air box. Some have used silicone elbows.
Also, the waste dump is bigger than the fv11 and this required a larger pipe on the divorced side of the DP.

Sorry for the ignorance...I'm new to a lot of this. I understand the vf34 is off of a USDM WRX right? I thought there was one that bolted right up....maybe TD05? I guess the extra fabrication is no biggie, but if I got a top mount IC, would there be less fab needed?
Also I don't know what the stand-alone ECU is supposed to be...does that mean stock? I was hoping to do the new turbo, I talked to a guy about a top mount IC, I have a new down pipe coming and I wanted to do a manual boost controller. Ya know, one that is in the car...little digital one. What do you recommend?
You're running 14 psi on stock head gasgets and heads and everything?!?

You can get a pretty much bolt up TD05 from deadbolt with the clocked outlet.
Also, millertime, I edited your signature. There's no reason to have spaces between the mod list. It just clutters things up.
Thanks

Fuel mixture and ignition advance controlled by Simple Digital Systems ecu www.sdsefi.com The OEM ecu is removed.
After www.rocketrally.com installed the brakes and suspension, Patrick did a test drive and with the A/F visible on the dash said "This is in a good tune".
I said "Yeah--SDS and the Gravity Dyno". Pat laughed, but has a dyno and if the tune wasn't "on" i'm sure he would want to have a go at it.

Subtle, what injectors are you running? I'm installing my vf34 and intercooler this weekend, was planning on running stock injectors for the time being, with the plan to upgrade injectors to larger, and doing a protune all at the same time... say probably about 2 months down the line.

Got to my notes----Nismo 370
At 1 bar boost running at 84% duty cycle.
Come Spring, we'll instal the 1.5 bar map and turn up the boost to 16.
Cool temps through the winter will keep me entertained at 14.5 boost
It's a two-week vacation driving around southern B C. Up to Whistler this Sat. for a few days of biking off the lift system. Then to a friend's place on a lake and then to Silver Star Mountain for some more gravity-assisted biking
Followed by a tour of the wineries.

i had a vf22 it was a good turbo boosted right where i wanted it to, then it blew up. now i got a vf34 on and it spools just a little to fast for me but its all right.
now i got a dead bolt tdo5-18g
as long as i get 400whp which i think i will hit higher i am good, 100whp at every wheel.
18g cfm590 @14.7psi
vf22 cfm440 @14.7psi
vf34 cfm430 @14.7psi
so 160cfm more less heat 18psi and i am good to go.

The small difference in flow between tne vf34 and the vf22 makes me theoretically like my 34 as much as I like it practically

also what cars do you get a VF22 and a VF33 off of?
The vf39 will bolt in, but you will have to figure out the inlet, because it isn't 90* like ours are...
The VF22 is some variety of JDM turbo...and I haven't ever heard of a VF33

I have a vf39 now, you either need to get a elbow welded on it or get a tough silicone elbow that wont collapse. Other than that it drops in.
