Luckily you live in NZ, there must a slightly more vf8's over there considering they never came on a car sold in the US. Your buddie's car isnt running bad because of the turbo itself, unless the turbo is broken or the turbine blade is siezed up its not the turbo. Its something HE did.
i_c_the_light, thats great that you can get vf8's easily and for cheap. Thats not the case over here in america.

True, however, the major downside is these turbos have probably been given absolute death during their lifetime far more than the average VF-10 because lets face it, the GT wagon is a cruiser family ride, not something boy racers would love to get their hands on and beat the crap out of.

Right, after how many months!!! I got myself a VF-8! Getting one was actually harder than expected, mainly because the wrecker totally forgot he had a couple but managed to find one amongst a pile of TD04's and the odd VF-10. I asked him about any TD05's and he had ONE in, but it got snapped up real quick with an EJ20G out of a totally destroyed STi. It's going in tonight, provided my mate gets back to me on being able to use his garage for it.

I have had a VF-8 for a couple years now.
First on my RS-RA motor (2.0) It had very little boost(or power) below 3K. But after that it pulled hard till 7k.
Now I have it on a 2.2 with JDM DOHC. My current heads have slightly smaller ports than the RS-RA(still very large). The turbo is at full boost by 3k now. I really like the way it feels.
At 15psi my EGTs tend to climb to 1600F on long pulls.
I have 440cc on a JDM EJ20g ECU with a VOS chip.

After having the VF-8 in my Legacy GT for some time, I am not going back! At stock 9psi it's a bit 'megh' but when upwards of 14-15psi the car becomes a horizontal rocket.
I am actually moving forward and got my eyes on a mates VF-24 which I'm hoping to get first dibs on when he upgrades to some wild hybrid setup on his V4 STi. I hope to upgrade soon anyways as the seals on the VF-8 aren't in the best shape.
Oh and the VF-8 in my GT has a 20-R turbine housing. VF-10 has a 15-R.

You looking to pop a hole in a piston man?!
If you run that much boost without fuel correction, that is what is going to happen!

Sounds like you run that boost level all the time, is that thought correct?
My car also spikes for about the same amount of time, but the spike is exactly 2psi over the constant boost level so a 16psi spike = 14psi taper down.
I'm not sure if I want to fix the spiking as it does spool up quick this way & feels pretty "zippy".

Yep, that would be correct. I have noticed the same thing. When it does that, I just turn down the MBC a turn, and it's fine.

I have a VF8 in my car, and a wideband O2...and on a stock ECU and stock injectors, you run out of fuel at about 15 psi on a VF8.

That's what I figured, thanks. I can tell the VF8 flows pretty well compared to the VF11 (stock PSI on both turbos).555BCTurbo wrote:n2x4 wrote:Why do you say that?555BCTurbo wrote:Don't run anything more than 15 psi on a VF8...otherwise y'alls be askin' for trouble.

Just wanted to make sure there wasn't any sort of "Danger to Manifold" floorpan flyin' voodoo to watch out for.
