Turbo Blanket

Post by ghia nut »

I just checked the search function and nothing really conclusive turned up.
But does any one happen to use a turbo blanket?
Were there any positive or negative effects from using it?
Would you recommend it?

I found that there hasn't been an easy solution for heat turbo blankets untill I went to Rally Sport Direct Last week and picked up this cool little guy:

I haven't installed it yet but I'll let you know how well it work and post pics.

Got bored and made some tonight. Not the prettiest thing in the world but what ever, should work.

The ptp blanket is nice. Works pretty well. I have one on my td05 and you can drive the car and pull over and touch it and it'll be hot but won't burn you. I definitely recommend it.

yes i use one, it contains the heat inside the turbo actually making more power. also keeps the heat from the turbo from spreading out in the engine bay. (dont want your intake sucking in hot air right?) the more heat contained in the turbo and exhaust components will net more power and keeps under hood temps low.

i use a turbo blanket and my EL headers, up-pipe, downpipe are all heat wrapped.... even my power steering lines are heat wrapped.

At work we have a HUGE Cummings V12 generator that will power the whole telephone exchange at 200%. It is a twin turbo. Both turbos and all piping to include the cold side are heavily rapped and you can work around the pipes. Now the noise level is around 135 dB.

Well, that NASIOC thread has effectively convinced me, I need to put a turbo blanket on my list for when I get back.
