You can not plug that hose. That is the vent line for the boost control solenoid. With that plugged, it's just like running a direct line from the turbo's compressor outlet to the wastegate solenoid, and you will not get anything but wastegate boost pressure.

It needs to be vented back into the intake piping pre-turbo.

You can d/l the parts catalog from me, which will have all the part #'s.

http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=30531

The hoses you want are on page 135 of 1,265. They're items 14 & 21.

Josh, THANK YOU. You are awesome!!!!

I am having a real hard time getting this manifold off.. still not off, it's catching on something, somewhere. It's at a buddies house in Vancouver, I don't have garage space right now. In a few days i'll get back over there and figure it out.

How many bolts did you take off per side?

4 each side, and everything bolting it down. It comes off about 1 inch, but is catching. I think I need to remove my PS reservoir and those lines, it is also bumping into the turbo outlet a bit. Idk, it's giving me a hell of a time.

If it's the PS pump, just remove the 3 bolts holding the pump to the bracket and move the pump off to the side. It's very easy.

So my VF11 didn't come with the metal 90, so I have to take mine off and put it on. The thing is that I don't have the gasket, can I just use blue RTV seal? Or should I go buy one from the dealer?

The weird thing is that my old turbo has zero shaft play and the fins are good. The new VF11 turbo I got has a tiny bit of shaft play, but my old one is rock solid. And I don't see any cracks. Frankly I'm pissed that I went through all this extra trouble to find nothing.

I would just find some generic gasket material at the autoparts store and cut it to fit.

Okay. So I got it running, but it started leaking oil right away. Immediately I shut it down, myself and a friend figured it was the turbo oil return line. The one on the right side if the up pipe, with ZERO CLEARANCE. I used a piece of silicone hose that ha a bigger outer diameter so the original clamp wouldnt fit. and I thought another squeeze clamp would be good enough but it wasn't. As I got under the car I saw it wasn't clamped at all pretty much. I tried for probably an hour of different combos of how to clamp the hose on but I gave up for the night.

What I need to know is will a normal pinch clamp (I.e. the ones our coolant tanks use) have a good enough seal? Is this line under high pressure?

The line is not under pressure at all, but the hose needs to be a good fit so it doesn't leak. You can order a new hose from Subaru so it'll be the correct size. The little pinch clamps should provide sufficient clamping force.

I'm irritated, I got clamps on the silicone hose I bought but it still wasn't enough. Was discouraged to find it still leaking. Oh well. It's parked and waiting for the dealer to get the right hose in on Wednesday. That hose is a real pain in the ass to get to. I'm getting damn quick and pulling turbos at least. :)

Got it on, doesn't seem to be leaking. Was able to drive back to my house from Vancouver to Tigard without a problem. Phew, what a long journey this repair has been.

Oooooooooooookay reviving this thread with a question.

So I unclogged the the nipple on the air resonator for the vent line for the boost control solenoid, hose J I believe in the vacuum diagram. Someone broke it off and glued it back on, but they got glue inside so it was blocking off the vent. I unclogged it, replaced that vac hose with a silicone hose and hooked it back up. The car felt WAY stronger, and was boosting up to 10psi. It didn't go over that.

So the weird thing is now, it's not always boosting to 10psi. Sometimes it stops at 5psi, and won't go over that. And then it will randomly pick back up... I don't know what the culprit would be on that. It's weird and i'm wondering if anyones got ideas.

I'd suspect the wastegate solenoid either is not letting it boost past 5 psi....which could be caused by some sensor telling the ECU to limit boost. (I'm not sure this is the most likely scenario) Or the wastegate solenoid is sticking and not allowing boost to build properly.

Would putting an MBC in it's place resolve either of those issues?

Yeah, it would help you troubleshoot the issue. If it's a sensor issue, you may get a CEL or some other issues.

It's weird, if I hold it WOT it unsticks it self and will go past 5. I think the BCS got damaged from that vent line being plugged up for so long, so it's having a hard time opening up.
