Anyone in Denver That Can Wrench???

Hey there, I have had my legacy turbo manual for about two years now and am on the fence about selling it because I need to have a bunch of work done. The car has 161k and is stock besides a wrx intercooler, and custom axel back exhaust. I have a TD04 which I want to swap but am fairly clueless/ do not have the necessary tools to make it happen. Anyone in Denver willing to help me out? I would pay well and help with all the jobs that need to be done. Soon it will need, a clutch/flywheel, one tie rod is messed up, the TD04 swap, fluid flushes, and possibly a head gasket or a new thermostat... I would much rather pay a member than a shop to do all of this work, and would love to learn to be more handy. Is $25/hour reasonable? I would provide all the parts just need a place to wrench and someone that knows what they are doing to help.

Cheers,

Chris

There's a few of us in the Springs that have a jist of what we're doing lol I've never messed with an engine other than like replacing a starter on a car. But when I got my T-leggy, I've torn the engine apart and now I'm waiting on my timing kit to fire it up!

TD04 swap is easy and so is flushing fluids. I'm not experienced with tie rods or flywheels. I replaced my head gaskets but thats just cause my heads were already off. If its smoking white smoke out the exhaust, it's a head gasket. If it'sjust overheating, it might be the thermostat, water pump, bad radiator maybe? Anyone else can chime in and correct me if im wrong lol.

But yea, we're definatley down to cruise, check out the Colorado meet in the community project section!

Good Luck :)

I am in East Aurora, if you are looking for some help I could possibly lend a hand. I just finished up my TD04 install and have more parts than I know what to do with haha. I have all of the tools to do what you are looking for as I have parted out about 7 of these cars now. Let me know when you are looking to do the work and we could set something up.

Thats cool man... Im down by DU looking for some help on some stuff and will want to do a bunch of work this summer. Do you have any VF 11's in decent shape? I think mine is about to poop out but just fairly busy with school and such at the moment but definitely looking to do a bunch of work this summer...

So I have been trying to diagnose a wierd idling issue with the car and it seems that the keway on the crankshaft chewed up my crank pulley... The keyway is damaged as well have you seen this issue or tried to fix one in the past?

Unfortunately, it's somewhat common because the service manual has the wrong torque info for tightening the crank pulley bolt. It doesn't get tightened enough, the bolt comes loose and the pulley as well as sometimes the keyway on the crank get damaged.

You can try and put a new key in there and some jb weld to keep the key in place, then put a new pulley on and crank the bolt to about 110 - 120 ft-lbs.

Yeah, I have a few VF-11's sitting on the shelf. I have not personally seen the issue with the keyway but I have heard about it in this site a few times.
