How did you fit / mount your 16G?

That spinning thing that makes all of the cool noises. OE and Aftermarket.

How did you fit / mount your 16G?

Post by free5ty1e »

So... now that i have my robtune setup running, i am finding that i cant seem to build more than 11 or 12psi with my 16g...at which point the boost immediately starts decreasing.

i have a simple MBC (dawes devices hybrid mbc, appeads to be made from Ace Hardware parts) which was perfctly happy dialing in 17psi on my smaller turbo with this setup.

We have also been tightnening the wastegate actuator arm to try and help but the problem remains.

I suspect it has something to do with the restriction on the turbo inlet; we had to run the silicon 90 degree inlet hose between intake manifold runners in order to fit this damn thing in here. The runners are squeezing the silicon elbow and it does not look optimal.

Edited- now with photo. Also, it is squashed up against the rear passenger side intake manifold runnner, not between two of them:

It does not feel as though the hose is in any danger of collapsing, it is quite tough.... but i dont like the looks of it.

Is there a better way to mount this turbo and how? Any ideas? I also picked up an angled airbox setup from the junkyard in case thar ends up helping.

Thanks in advance! :D

Looks like you got this figured out HERE.

You don't mention it in this thread, but since you have a FMIC (correct?), you can look up 'rotated' options for the turbo, too.

But if your TD05 is the old-style, top-entry design, you probably don't want that either.

That was definitely part of the problem but i still am interested in options to mount the turbo so i dont have to squeeze my 90 degree inlet silicone elbow between the intake manifold runners.

So there is some sort of method to rotate the mounting? That sounds promising... i will look into that as i will have to redo my intercooler piping anyway. Thanks again! :D

Pic of this: "squeeze my 90 degree inlet silicone elbow between the intake manifold runners"?

Photo added to first post. I meant to say the rear passenger intake manifold runner is squashing the turbo inlet hose and deforming it a bit. It is not between two runners as i originally thought.

Is there some sort of subaru rotated mount turbo adapt kit or something or is it a huge deal to do?
