Some of the veterans on here know what I'm talking about right? I mean the information aspect of it and the help on that part is still great. its the whole community aspect that I see missing now. just doesn't feel like home anymore to me. is it just me?

I feel you Mike.

I think it's a matter of everyone has just been busy. School's in full gear for most of us in college and a lot of our veterns I think have been busy with work. Anybody heard from Vikash in a while?. And if it hasn't been work it's been family. We didn't have our East Coast get together on account of everyone being busy for example.

I've definately noticed a dip in the overall feel but I don't think it's a matter of insocialism - just a lull in activity. There's also been a lot of new members and a lot of the 'same old questions' which a lot of us skip over and so a lot of the side chit chat that starts in the threads hasn't been happening. How many times did we used to get told to take it to the ashtray or have threads gone on for pages past the final answer to the original question?

There's also a bit more general Subaru stuff being discussed beyond just the 90-94 which has the same effect I think. I know I haven't been as active since I lost my BC and do more lurking than posting - though I garuentee that will change when I get another BC soon.

Either way, deep down, I still feel a strong sense to attachment to this board and while I've never meet any of you guys there's several whom I consider friends and would happily provide a place to stay, food and beer, if they should come through my way.

I was talking to Matt about this just recently.

I feel it too.

I haven't been able to get ahold of Vikash for some time now. I've left a ton of voice messages, but no replys. It's possible that he may have been or still be out of the country.

I am not impressed by the greater number of personal attacks I am seeing on here...

When I joined this board it was 95% technical, and like 5% silly bullshit stuff (mostly contained to the ashtray) but now the bullshit has spread all over :-(

I'm not around much.

I just don't care about eeking out 10-50hp out of a car, and i don't think hardly anyone on a message board can drive well enough to appreciate what their chassis/brake/suspension modifications have really done.

Not to say there isn't some really fantastic individuals on here.

I just wanna drive, who wants to come?

I can appreciate the disappointment that many of you are feeling with some of the attitudes that have been shown around here. It sours things, drives some people away, and makes others uncomfortable. Neither I nor Josh want to police this place and make it seem as though we're watching everyone's movements with a finger on a "ban" button.

This remains a heavily technical forum, and as long as that's the case, I've no problem maintaining it. I don't own a car that falls into the scope of the tech discussion here, but that doesn't mean I'm not interested and don't open a lot of the threads to see what people are talking about.

It's become more social here too, and because of that, people are bound to have conflicts that don't have anything to do with the cars. That disappoints us all.

Contributing positively is the only good way to make something you care about better. I take all ideas, good or otherwise, into consideration and don't make any decisions without talking to at least a few others around here.

Cheer up, this board and the people here still make me proud.

Look at it on the flip side. Those that haven't been around here since the board was started. What sort of feel are they getting when you have a bunch of grumpy "old schoolers" that tell them to search. Now that reminds me a lot of NASIOC, and that was one of the reasons I really liked this board when it was getting started. People were nice, and if there was a similar topic, people for the most part pointed them to it (Jason excluded)

Fast forward to today......times have changed, the entire import scene has changed, and while the subaru community has a less of F&F feel you still get spill over. If someone has joined our community and is excited because of what they have seen via mainstream media that's fine. However, it is not your job as an "old scholer" to belittle them. It is your choice if you choose, to tactfully and tastefully educate them. That is how the community grows and the feel remains similar through out the years.

On the flipside, if you can't go about things in a tactful way, keep your damn mouth shut!

There is ALWAYS someone more knowledgable and smarter then you. Keep that in mind before you go and tell someone they're stupid for asking what seems like an obvious question. What may be clear as day to you, may be like mud to them.

I will end this partial rant by putting your complaints about the feel of the community back on you. If you don't like it, do something about it. If you put in crap, you're going to get crap out.

i hope that pissy rant wasn't because of what i said. I'm don't post much on other message boards for the same reason. As car-specific boards go, this is the best i've seen on the net.

Sage advice Josh. That's the one thing I now know for sure in my quest for car knowledge.

I know a hundred times as much about these cars, about Subarus, and about cars in general as I did when I joined this board. But guess what? There are people out there, and there are people right here on this board, that still know shit-tons more than me. And when I learn enough that I know as much as them, they will have learned just as much more stuff.

BUT... despite the fact that one particular person knows more in general than me, there might be one specific thing that I have experience with that that person might not.

For example, Vikash has a downright vulgar amount of knowledge about these cars, but I don't know that he's ever attempted to rebuild/reseal a power steering pump.

I have, as has Josh (and even though I screwed my current one up, I know what I did wrong, and am going to complete rebuild my junkyard one knowing what I do now).

Thus I, who is comfortable to say that I know way less that Vikash does, could potentially offer advice to Vikash.

Anyway, cliff notes on all my ramblings: This is a DISCUSSION BOARD with the intent of providing INFORMATION to EVERYONE who needs it. Between all our members, we have enough information to tear our cars down to the bare frame and rebuild it from scratch, and the purpose of this board is for anyone who has knowledge/experience to provide someone who does not have knowledge/experience with information on how to do just that. When this forum ceases to do that (and I'm worried that we're getting to that point), then there is no reason for this forum to even exist.

My take, well I was one of the the original members of this board. I was just signing up for the yahoo mail groups when this board came into existence. I was shocked at how much knowledge quickly came and grew on this board.

The changing and growing import market, along with the re-discovery of the potential hidden in the 91-94 legacy hasn't come without its affects on our community. Still, the knowledge is still here in this community as is the people that make it what it is. I still think that a better community of people and a more knowledgeable group of people would be hard to find.

Sure we may get some questions we don't like but if we can kindly direct the new recruits to the style of interaction we like, I would bet things can stay on a pretty even track.

The harsh comments that come from the members does give a bad outlook, though. It makes us look like snobs. Let's try and keep our attention on what we want the atmosphere to be like and move towards keeping it that way.

As far as people being quiet or gone, well that's life. I know I am far less active on the boards because I'm just caught up in work and life and haven't really had time to surf the boards much less work on my car. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Anyways,

On another note, I have my "I love BCs" T-Shirt an am loving it. :)

OH. MY. GOD.

My panties are in a bunch. Over there in the corner.

Anyhooo..... I seldom answer question that I can't.... I seldom answer questions that I think/know ONE SINGLE SEARCH QUESTION would solve.

I have only personally "attacked" one person - cause he irritates me :)

But I read this forum daily. I am always looking to help when I can. And if the person is a Noob and isnt an idiot, I will do the best I can.

But, I know how you all feel tho, it does seem a little less community than before. Not that the board is dying, just that some of us on here who used to post more are probably spending more time in other endeavors. I haven't been in here regularly just because of being really busy at work and at home, so that leaves little time to come in and chat or offer what little advice/knowledge that I have. Even less time to mod my car. Sometimes things just get slow, even in online communites...

Well, I've been trapped in World of Warcraft's terribly addictive embrace :) Even moreso since a lot of my friends from back home play it too.

Since winter's setting in and I wont be going outside all that much, I'm just trying to pass the time until I finally can build a residence with a garage on my land, at which point I will be spending PLENTY of time with my 3 SS's and working on the LegacEBC again.

I'm not leaving the Subaru community though, no way. :)

I just haven't been around for two reasons:

1. I'm up at school and don't have my car here
2. I've been concentrating on fixing my G20 and thus have been on G20.net a lot more

This forum is still excellent, and although I really like my G20 and think G20.net is pretty good, I feel like people are not quite as mature there. Too many ricers with body kits and carbon fiber hoods... and the mods seem to get in tussles with members too much. Still, I think G20.net is better than NASIOC. ;)
