Something Different

Post by Subtle »

And Now For Something Completely Different.

In driving up one of the mountain passes east of Vancouver there were a few cyclists--some roadies and some tourists with panniers. The rise from 700 feet to over 4000 must be a grind. :?

Ahead on a straight there appeared to be the tallest bike or cyclist I've seen. In getting closer--it was a guy, with a pack--on a unicycle.

It was a large wheel with a mountain bike tire, a tallish seat with a small handle bar.

Googled the subject and the guy is on a cross-country tour.

The rider posted that it was difficult going downhill. I guess so :!:

Damn, cross country unicycle trip? Yikes.

I can imagine how going downhill on a solid axle unicycle would be difficult. Much harder to regulate your speed going downhill. Uphill you can *just* pedal harder to stay up. Down hill if you pedal harder you face-plant, and if you resist you face-plant.

I see the occasional unicycle rider, and it just makes me laugh my ass off.

The nearby trails I ride with my mountain bike are good, but modest stuff. Only ten minutes drive away.

Have seen a unicyle in there twice--which does not make it a bicycle.
