JOBS WHAT DO YOU DO

Post by Falken-18c »

I was just wondering what types of jobs people have on this fourm ill start.
I work seasonal work in the summer i do concrete work, sidewalk and curbs i form up boards pour the concrete troul, float, broom.and edge watch it dry lol. You wanna put your name on the sidewalk 20$ and face prints are free lol

Now im work through a temp agent making air conditioner for cars trucks i think every thing.
what i have done every thing from cuting the aluminum tubes to endforming which is asembling the end peanuts on the parts then staking and peircing which is puting the valve on the parts.
After it goes to brazing which welds the valve thing on lol

Then they go to final lines which you bend the aluminum tubes then they get crimped to the hose
then leaktested then checked for quality and pacaged out.

Im just looking to see what other people do as im thinking of going back to school. dunno what i want to do but i know i dont wanna be where i am right now. i like my concrete job but im thinking i want somthing all year not just seasonal.

Thanks

i might have seen you on how its made . lol I work at a big motorcycle shop in the parts department. been doin it for 8 years. i took a break to work with my dad for a while as a rigger for a super heavy haul company, lots of traveling texas, wyoming, cali and arizona were our main places to work.. didnt get paid that well and its hard on a relationship to be out of town monthes at a time. this tank weighd 15 tons and 70 feet long.. thats me on the cross beam we would build this thing and i would run the controll box to lift it off the train car then we would transport it on our special trailor. but being a parts guy is fun for me i like bikes and i make good money. do what your heart desires, you can always try somthin else sounds like you have common sence to do alot of different things. . . Damn that thing looks like it could easily tip that whole train car over.

I am a dealer in a casino. I deal blackjack, craps and all the other carnival games. It paid well when I started but I was 19 then and now I'm 24 and I want more, of course. Or at least it would be nice to work a job I don't hate. The customers are incredibly rude to the point you wouldn't believe. It wears on you day after day after month after year. Working nights sucks. No social life unless you're really into partying. Cigarette smoke the whole time, often blown in your face. Drunks. No raises and in this business there's nowhere to advance. Only way to make more money is go to a card room or white man's casino where you keep your own tips instead of sharing with everyone and you can probably make an extra $5-$10 an hour.

I haven't been able to come up with a job I won't also hate that makes similar or better wages so I'm always up for new ideas.

People think i'm crazy when i say i have my dream job, i'm a parts puller at one of the largest salvage yards on the west coast and the US. I've been there a year now and have no plans of going anywhere, i'm 25 and am finally seated in a career. I worked my ass off to get the best postion i could ask for, I run the Will Call in the Imports department. I don't have to deal with customers anymore which is great cuz i'm not much of a people person, i don't make a ton of money, but i'm happy doing what i do and to me that is better than more money. Plus, i get rediculous prices on parts. I'm constantly buying Subaru parts to uprgrade the Legacy.

Well good for you! That's cool. Do they let people pull their own at all? I can't stand it when they don't let me go browse and get my own parts. I like to take my time or be quick if I'm in a hurry and many times I buy lots of parts I didn't intend to buy. There's a big yard south of here called I5 auto and I won't go there anymore because they do that and on top of that they're assholes big timw. Worst customer service ever. And that pisses me off more because my iob is hugely customer service based. They're extremely overpriced as well.

I work in the parts department at a chrysler dealership here in oklahoma. Its a decent job. I would much rather work for an import dealer like subaru, honda, nissan, or toyota. Its not a bad job, commission based and was easy to learn after coming from two years at autozone. I'm 22 and have been here for a year. Its not my dream job, but its getting close. I took my two years at a vocational school for drafting and design and loved it, but not a lot of jobs around here doing anything of the sort unless I move, so this will do. I would love to work aftermarket parts for a big company. Applied at deatschwerks, but didn't quite make the cut yet. I'll try again when I feel I'm more prepared though.

Is that cool? I should apply at Subaru. Looks like a cush job and you get discounts on subaru parts. Can't be worse than this job and best of all you get good hours. Never work nights again! Woot Woot. Wonder what the requirements are? Then again I never see anyone different working there so they're probably not hiring.

Seems strange that it would be commission based. Why is that? You're not really a salesman but I guess they pay you to be quick? That doesn't seem right, there's never been a big line when I've been in. I used to work at the lincoln, mercury mazda dealer as a lot attendant. Interesting job but it sucked. I drove a lot of cars but being mainly mazda, they all sucked except the MX-5.

We pull the parts for the customer but it depends on the yard guy you go out with. When i used to take customers out and it was someone who knew what they were doing, i'd let them browse and grab what they needed unless it was something time consuming like suspension parts. Now, i just get slips with orders of parts, go pull them, and take them to shipping or will call pickup.

I am happy to be gainfully employed making anything more than what unemployment benefits were paying me! I'm doing Project/Program Management :) I'm also earning about 30k less than I was prior to the automotive meltdown of 2008.

I'm a Network Administrator with the Marine Corps... worst hours I could have ever imagined, but I love my job and even though I get paid slightly less than an equivalent private sector job the stuff I get to do pretty much makes up for it. I'd love to work in the automotive sector, but I can support my family and my hobby simultaneously so it's all good. It'd be nice if the time was there, but 2 out of 3 is pretty good I'd say.

I'm an automotive assembly technician at Magna and a backyard mechanic. I get paid well for the job I do. The hours are decent straight eights and no night shift. I weld parts together by hand or with automated machines and help build service parts on the late model parts like the ford windstar van and now the crown victoria.
The best part of my job is seeing all the new models before the public even get spy photos etc... We help the big six automakers build their prototype production models. The last big project I worked on was the camero ragtop. We have also seen proposals for a jeep pickup and a 300C ragtop and a replacement for the hyundai santa fe. We also just starting to make hoods for Fiskar Automotive the newest electric car maker.

Im a network technician by trade but it kinda sucks. Ive installed virtually every kind of voice/data/wireless/fiberoptic network you can imagine. The company i was working for offered no over time pay, lots of out of town work in the most aweful shithole towns. There is always the posibility of advancement, so at least its not a dead end job. I really would like to work for the subaru dealership tho. haha

Being a parts guy isnt what its cracked up to be.in my game its seasonal so the money goes up and down. i get a solid hourly of $13 and a solid 40hrs but i make 1% commision of my monthely sales which is nice in the summer when everyone wants to pump up there bike/quads and crotch rockets wich averages 20 to 40k in sales, as soon as it starts raining it hits a wall, i have a buddy who works at toyota and we compare our crapy customer of the day.ha you get people asking the dumbest questions, and they get mad if you dont have a coil for there 1978 honda cb400 or haveing to walk them through stuff over the phone. and it gets old fast. theres not much room for improvement. you gain knowledge on stuff but thats about it. lol motorcycle parts and service is the same as car parts and service.i call it the arm pit of the dealership. now if you owened a subaru dealer thats a different story. that would be cool. sorry bout the rant but people say to me how cool it would be to be a parts guy at a honda yamaha kawasaki suzuki shop. it is when your in high school which is when i started, but im lookin for a new carrier too amybe own a bike shop. chew on that for a bit. happy new year guys. again sorry about the rant. :D
