turn in the market for the turbo leg?

Post by magicmike »

I'm wondering if the change in the economy has had an effect on the going price for these things. I was browsing the car lot and couldn't believe the asking prices considering I couldn't get more than 1500 offered for mine 2 years ago. And that is with a completely rebuilt long block, VF34, TMIC, 3" turbo back CES exhaust, FCD, Avecr, 2 sets of wheels with summer and winter tires.... The car still goes like hell and runs 18psi daily.

I dont't know, did I miss something???

Maybe it was because of the mods?

Hum, are you suggesting that the car being modded hurt the value?

It really depends on the buyer honestly. If I were in the market for a turbo subaru I would want one that was unmmolested. I would pay more for that as well.

But if you run into a buyer who wants to do all that stuff, and likes what you have done so far, then they'll pay more for that.

I just bought the 500 Dollar SS with a bad 4eat in the car lot, After I replace the trans and or diff and fix a few oil leaks, I'm going to re list it for 3500 OBO, Even tho it has 204k, it runs perfect, and pulls good in 1st and 2nd.

I am shocked as well....stock tlegs with only wheels going for 3500. That's like 2K over blue book. Not sure what is going on lately.

I had a mint condition 93 TW totally stock and could not get anyone to even come look at it 2 years ago. I had it listed for 1800. Now I'm keeping it!

These are far better cars than many cars that are actually worth $3-$4K on KBB, especially if the rust hasn't gotten them the tranny is taken care of. I'd definitely pay $3500 for a shining example, although many of the ones I've seen for that price would be $2000 - $2500 cars IMHO.

And I'd say that mods would decrease the value for anyone not looking for specifically what you've done and how you've done it. This is where things like making a custom intake/intercooler look as stock as possible, and keeping any custom wiring neat and properly protected/routed really pay off dividends. Anything cosmetic is a detriment if it isn't the buyer's fancy, especially if it can't be put back to stock with parts included in the sale, or if the stock parts were modified (opening up the bumper and/or beam for an FMIC, cutting holes for gauges, etc).

I can probably count on one hand how many cars on here I'd actually pay more for considering their mods (for currently active members, at least). But then again, I'm not a fan of air/air intercoolers ;)

It depends on the entire condition especially relating to rust, AND the biggest deal breaker is your location... I paid 3500 for my ss with 180k and NO rust, perfect interior and almost perfect exterior. It had been slightly modded with a tmic, exhaust and couple other things. I had a long list of people not only in Colorado but out of state offering more than what I paid for it immediately after I bought it. I've had 4 different hueberger employees come up to me while I'm buying car parts at different times offering to trade their wrx or straight up buy it off me.

Its crazy to think of but depending on where your at and if there are other tlegs for sale in your area and their condition, and how MUCH the buyer wants your car they WILL pay how much they think its worth. After seeing the cult following of the 2.5rs and the tlegs, I dont even bother to look at kbb or nada....

ahh, good points. I bought my leggy for 4k stock at the time because of the condition of the body. Since I only use this car for the rough winters here in RI, the front fenders are shot and the rear quarters have been totally repaired once already by me a couple of years ago and have come back strong with rot again.

I am going to have to get rid of this thing and honestly cant see only getting 1k for it just because there is some body rust. All the money is in the motor. I'm thinking I should just pull the motor and craigslist it and junk the shell for scrap at this point. although the interior is friggin mint in this car and its such a shame!

Mike.....honestly, you're best bet would be to part it out. I know that's a lot more work, but that's probably the best option to get some value out of the stuff you've done.
