Sounds like a bad voltage regulator. I have a couple spare alts, too.
We could have a fix-Chris'-legacy clinic at the show.

Assuming the next alternator I find gets me up there, lol! That might be an extended clinic, methinks.

Damn, you better save everybody at the show a spot then. I'm recovering from a wicked fever right now. I should hopefully be good to go by this weekend.

Going to JY tomorrow (Sherwood?) to try and find a working Subaru OEM alternator or two (or three if reasonable); voltage regulation has continued to be epileptic at best in my '94 SS that I plan to drive to this event, according to my gauge's needle. I don't want to have to drive the fiancee's Corolla up -- that would be admitting failure! Besides, I'm certain even if she would let me play in the mud that it wouldn't quite be the same. I also would prefer to not end up with another cleverly-named Duralast alternator in here. Wonder if one of the other auto parts chains would have a better quality unit available without requiring me to spend what, $450 at the dealership for a new OEM unit?

Subarugenuineparts.com says it's $219 - $50 core for an alternator. It'll be a little higher at your dealership, but definitely not $450.

A bit more reasonable, perhaps a fallback if I can't find any working alternators at the JY. Definitely preferable to spending $120 to replace my alternator every month with a fresh Duralast and probably batteries more often as well with this erratic charge voltage approaching 16 - 17v at times. BAD voltage regulator, BAD! NO. *rolled-up newspaper* You know what you did.

Another change of plans, Leaving tonight. All packed up and room is booked. Now the dreaded 2 hour wait for my better half to get off work.
