Can you provide any trustworthy information on the legality and/or safety of these kits?

As far as I know HID aren't "road legal" even factory HID's in RI. Thats what I read before. So I guess these are sold for "off road" use only. But then again every state could be different. I guess you would have to look at your local laws.

All light bulbs and ballasts comes with a one year warranty from the day you receive the kit. Wiring for a plug and play is included most people can install the kit within 30 minutes! 100% satisfaction is guaranteed as well as superior quality. Upon startup the bulbs only takes 5 seconds burning time and only draws 7 amps of power when compared to factory cars its lower than most! The kit is completely safe to use in conjunction with a factory light harness. Tech-One HID Conversion Kit is fully waterproof. Tech-One HIDs are intended for SHOW or OFF-ROAD USE ONLY. A trained professional is recommended to install all products sold by me. :-)

I'll take pics of when I put them on my car. It's a universal plug and play kit.

And I'd still be interested in seeing any information on their safety.

You mean do are they blinding bright and a hazard to other drivers? Most probably...but we f*** the other guy and pass the savings onto you! <grin>

I followed a E30 BMW with a HID retrofit and light was going everywhere. Looked like ET was landing.

You're aware, right, that an incorrect beam pattern is a hazard to you as well, not just to other drivers?

You need the right amount of light in the right places to illuminate the road adequately, and can't have too much in the wrong places or you get unacceptable glare.

Well, common sense tells me that you can't put an arc-shaped light source into optics designed for a cylindrical-shaped light source and get the same beam pattern out, especially if the arc's orientation is perpendicular to the original cylinder's.

It seems to me that the halogen filament for the high beam would have to end up even further away from where it originally was, too.

My experience with the optics in various lamps tells me that changing the position of a light source can cause areas of output which used to be local maxima to become local minima, which seems like it could cause the dangerous situation of having a lot of light but not in the actual place it's needed, and I wouldn't want to have an optical illusion where I think I can see better but can actually see worse.

Also, I'd be worried about ending up with light scattering up high. Common sense and experience tells me that light would just shine off rain and fog and blind me.

I've also read documents like the following which indicate that kits like these are unsafe:

http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/rulings/glare.html
http://www.hella.com/produktion/HellaUS ... proved.jsp
http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech ... sions.html

So. Do you have any information that runs contrary to this? Or any photometric information at all?

Any HID conversion kit is illegal for road use and is for show or off road only. And I would believe it's because what you said. I don't have any info and I emailed the vendor and they or closed till Christmas.

There's no info I could provide to make these 'seem' like they are safe for the road. Just like some other parts that's are for "off road' use only.

I'll see what the manufacture can send me, but I'm sure they will say they are for "show" or "off road" use only. All HID conversion kits are illegal. That's as much as I know.

I honestly don't know much about HIDs except for they are bright as f*ck.... what i was wondering is if you can send me a picture of a 9004 kit so i could get an idea of what i would be buying if i decided to pick one up... which i am strongly leaning towards.

hey can people still order these??

If so, do you have pictures of the beam pattern in a BC legacy?? Just curious because my brother boguht a set of random HID's for his 02 RS and the beam pattern was screwed up because of the length of the bulb, which made it sit int he wrong spot and mess with the pattern.
