Zach's Legacy FrankenSTIn TW

Post by SubaruNation »

My Gallery Here
It all started when i decided that the Legacy L wasn't really doing it for me... so i looked around and almost bought one of these...
Image
Wow, it literally looked just like that.

The Corrado i was interested in needed some work *ahem...Understatement...ahem...coughCough*

so i found this lil' butte in town for a bit more expensive than the corrado, but i knew it would be reliable like the L.
Image
i decided to get it b/c it has a turbo AND it's a wagon.
With this car, I'm able to drive around all my buds wherever we go AND put all of my life in it. Seriously, Picture of the car loaded to come.

I didn't want to sacrifice my lifestyle by purchasing a sedan. ;)
Image

Initially when i purchased the car there was alot of stuff wrong with it.

I had to fix/replace the drivers side:
*Headlight
*Corner light
*Fender

Plus, somehow the previous owner *cough.cough* tony *ahem..cough cough*... messed up some other stuff i had to pay for like..

4 new not-warped rotors
new pads
new calipers

I also had to replace the rear struts because they were destroyed,
I then purchased some brand, Spankin' OEM Struts for a good price.
Still need new Springs....
And replaced a leaking power steering line with Ferrari494's help.

This is a picture of the car after i finished all of the above...
Image
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Oh yeah, and i "blacked-out" the headlights. without a doubt the coolest and cheapest mod out there. ;)

This is how to do it:
1. Go and get some black spraypaint from somewhere (mine was $1 @ home depot)

2. Take your headlights off your car

3. let your oven warm up to 260*

4. Put the Headlights in (with the tabs off, you will burn your fingers bad if you arent careful)

5. Let em' sit for about 4 min. (checking if need be)
This will warm up the adhesive that holds the housing and plastic together
6. take em' out and take em' outside. using newspaper and masking tape, cover up the inner circle area WELL you dont want the inside of your light black. need the reflection..

7. Do to both and Spraypaint

8. let sit until satisfied.

9. repeat steps 3-5 then re-apply the tabs.

and you're golden :-D put em back in if you want
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To finish off the basic "fixing" of the car, i had ALOT of the expensive and stupid ICE that came with the car removed/ wires cut.

Oh, and i bought Farrari494's STi exhaust for a steal
Image

And it looked like this...
Image

Then i drove to school and it snowed a bunch
Image
Image

Then my buddy was selling his 25rs scoop for a deal, because he was putting a 04 STi scoop on.
I thought, Hey that might be cool eh?
Image
So i borrowed it to see if i liked the style..
Image
Image
and i decided, hell yes it looks sweet.

I started putting it on and ran into some trouble b/c i'm the only one that has done this that i know of... :?
My 2.5 RS Scoop Install Thread: http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=34490

After
Image

Then i decided JDM fogs were pretty cool, so BlackBart hooked me up :-D

Then i realized that i didn't understand wires at all,
Image
so with some help from the forums and my buddy I got it done.
Image
and they're bright :-D
Image

Then i decided WTF was the point of JDM fog lights, without an Intercooler?

Found one in the shed and got it:
Image
I figured out how to install the 06/07 TMIC with the stock coolant tank here:http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=35056

Then i struggled a wee-bit installing it

*Read this for help with 06/07 TMIC install:
http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic. ... sc&start=0
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is some 06/07 TMIC w/ VF11 info:

my gallery: http://gallery.legacycentral.org/v/Memb ... +business/

You are going to need:

a 45* Mandrel Bent pipe that will fit inside your 90* silicon hose.

a silicon hose (90*) from siliconintakes.com that is both the outer diameter of the turbo outlet and the mandrel bent pipe you will be using. i think its 1.75. search it

you are going to need at least 6 hose clamps also, and some kind of hose to run your recirc/ blowoff whatever you want to do.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Got pissed about the install and bought Kumho Ecsta ASX's to make myself feel better, it worked ;)
Image

Got it in with silicone:
Image
http://www.siliconeintakes.com<-- from here
YOU WILL WANT THE 1.75 one for thte VF11,

thanks NuclearBacon

And I installed Dscooby's old MBC with help from STipro, BXSS, and Subarujunkie.
Image
And a Boost Gauge:
Image

Then i received the RS decals from shtbxr22, so i put them on
Image

and yesterday~ish i put the back one on like so..
Image

Then i copied Smh0101 & asc_up:
Image

And painted my wheels

i couldn't ask for anything better..except for this :smt040

Future Plans:

Spec B Wheels
KYB AGX + sleeves
TD05-16G/VF39 + the other necessary stuff
Big Down/ Up pipe

When they run.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

It's too bad - they handled well for fwd and looked pretty nice (I still will always like the first gen Scirocco best). A friend of a friend had one and it cost him a fortune. He had a G60. I heard the VR6 was better, but I think that's all relative for VW.

I rode in a gutted VR6 Corrado that straight hauled ass...

And sounded oh so good!

But yes...unless you are a seasoned mechanic, German cars like that aren't such a good idea...

Way better than the bald tires i had before!

They grip the road really well, my only gripe is that they don't look that cool b/c they are all-season (s) on stock rims.
As of now, highly recommended, i stay on the road and my turning is ALOT smoother and quieter.

Basically i want rims and suspension pretty bad

and that corrado was a vr6... uh supercharged... so fast... but so shitty  i'm not a seasoned mechanic but my mechanic said "absolutely do not buy this car" without even looking under the hood b/c of the mileage.

the supercharger needed rebuilding, the trans... the sunroof etc..
too much work

Nice wagon!

I have a set of the ASXs on my OBS-T size 205/55-15 & 2nd your impression.
They work very well for a performance all-season tire (I've driven these on snow, in rain, & in the summer heat), but they look a little old-ladyish.

If it was a VR6 it wasn't supercharged...

The G60 was a supercharged 1.8L 8 valve
ok no offense here, i know what a supercharger is and i know what was in this car.

I did ALOT of research...

The previous owners put in a aftermarket supercharger and used it as a Rally/ Autocross car in the summer-time.

hence the post about how fast it was :D

If you cap the line on the MBC going back to the c-cup boost will be actuator level (about 5psi on Vf11s, 8psi on TD0Xs).

If you put a solenoid (with a power switch in the car connected to it) on this line between the MBC & C-cup you can make a 2 level boost controller.

Hi boost will be what you set the MBC to & low boost will be the actuator boost level.

So do you have an alarm system or something?

I'm trying to figure out what the little red L.E.D. is to the right of your steering wheel (where the air ride suspension button goes).

i don't understand car electronics lol.

but i guess it has a hard-core alarm system in it, and i had auto-door openers.
it's got the security system in it too, i don't know much about it.
the red led blinks always, and thats the Security System.

Your parts look really close to my friends Trail-or-park.

Yeah I ride. I can't get off a twenty incher, I still thin suspension is for motorcyles and cars.
THe guys I ride with are all MTB guys and trying to convert me.
I loved the blkmarket my buddy had. His new transition is ok...

I actually manage a Bike shop, and have for years sans my 1 year hiatus as a suby tech at a dealership.

I actually just finished my FBM "bitchin Camaro" about 2 minutes ago. Its hung with parts from DK, S&M, Profile, Thompson, Avid. I used to race but its mostly trails and street now.

ya those trailerparks are pretty sweet, i'd way rather have a Blk Market though. i don't like the transition style i guess.

pretty much everyone i know rides 20" which is ok, i mean i end up learning BMX style more than anything.

Subies + Bikes = Awesome.

my cycle is the sole reason i bought a wagon of doom.
