Thanks guys! I've waited a long time for these. 6 months or more since I bought them. The seller rebuilt them and powdered coated them and then shipped them to me and the sorting facility in Denver, CO broke the box and chipped the paint all over every single caliper. Filed an insurance claim and had to hand over my brakes to the USPS for a couple weeks. Got my check and cashed it and then went to go pick them up and they tried saying they were now property of the USPS! I was so mad. I told them that was bullshit and that's not how it works. They didn't buy them off me or it would have been for a hell of a lot more than the cost of the paint job which is what they paid me. They tried calling their corporate office with no response and finally gave up and gave me my brakes and I left as fast as I could.

They have no use for my brakes and would just toss them in the trash anyway.

Good job on the vent. That's exactly what I was thinking.

The brake fiasco sounds horrible, I'm glad it eventually worked out for you.

That fuel filter had a rubber inside in the end and a spring with a plug. It was a one way valve and with enough pressure coming in it would open but never allow anything to come out that hole. I blew into it and it took too much pressure to open so I just pulled it out and removed the spring and plug and chopped the end of the rubber insert off leaving me with a nice rubber sleeve that fits inside the filter that made up for the extra play between the filter and the pipe. Fits quite snug now. Not going anywhere.

Had to order a bolt for one of the calipers since one was missing. Not going to be in for a week. Lame.

If it just a caliper bolt, I probably have one.

I don't know if mine will be done either. The brakes surely will but the paint correction...I dunno and various other bits and pieces including my own COP conversion. I wish there was an easy to access grommet in the firewall to run wires. I'm about to cut a fat hole in it and make my own. I've been running wires through the grommet underneath the brake booster but that is such a hard spot to work with. Now I need to run 4 signal wires and a switched power source for the COP setup.

I thought I did too. I was going to reuse one from my stock SS brakes but it turns out they're totally different when it comes to the slide pins. There's no guide pin and the bolts are just 22mm M8x1.0 w/14mm heads. They only go into the slide mechanism, whereas on the legacy the bolt goes all the way through and the caliper slides on the bolt. I also found out I'm missing those stupid metal brackets that the pads ride inside so I had to order those from autozone. Put a wrench in my whole operation today.

Just find your 12v switched under the hood kimo.

When I attempted mine, I pulled switched off of the coil pack harness. Depending on the 20g ecu you can do the same or pull switched off the injectors.

Haven't updated in a grip. I finished the brake swap. 05 LGT brakes powder coated green to match my struts and SS Techna-fit brake lines along with ABS delete and 94 SVX FWD 1 1/16" brake master cylinder swap. Here's a pic of the bay where the ABS used to reside.

Friend of mine sold me this NRG suede wheel and carbon fiber NRG quick release and honda hub for $100 almost new. Couldn't pass it up. I liked my WRX wheel a lot but always wanted a quick release. $83 for a subaru hub shipped and some engineering on my part and I have a new wheel and managed to maintain my horn and turn signal auto-cancel feature.

Here's what the factory turn signal auto-canceler/horn+cruise control wiring contraption looks like. And it's gotta go. NRG aint got time for that.

Image

Then it's time to hit the drawing board. This took forever. Looks simple but I got it wrong the first time and spent a lot more time the second time designing a thing piece of tin that would connect the hub to the auto-canceler to shut off the signals once a turn is completed.

Image
Image

This is what I came up with. Nice little piece that goes into the channels on the hub and has holes in it for the little pegs that protude out of the face of the white circular device on the steering column.

Here you can see the piece I made in it's place and also you will notice the other piece I fabbed up to keep my horn. It's a hair clip bent so that it rides up against the back of the hub at all times providing the circuit for the horn.

Hub on.

Quick release installed.

The wheel is done now but in this pic I hadn't finished putting the plastics back together all the way.

That looks great Kimo! Nice photos of the process, thanks for doing that. That thicker suede wheel probably feels a ton better than the stock one.

Thanks. I've barely driven it. I took it for a test drive when I was done just to see what it was like and it's definitely smaller in diameter! And the WRX is smaller than the stock legacy I believe so it's quite the difference. The girth is much thicker though. I only drove it for a few minutes because I forgot that my front passenger side fender liner was not attached and it rubbed and wore a huge hole in it in only a few miles.

The smaller diameter wheel really reminds me that I need new power steering lines that aren't kinked. My power steering is almost non-existant. Sucks. Need to take some measurements and send this guy the measurements and the stock hose fittings so he can build my an AN braided stainless teflon hose for it and a nice return hose too.

You know what really grinds my gears though?? It would have been so damn easy for NRG with their fancy machine tools and autoCAD to design and build the stupid little piece I had to make to get my auto-canceler to work but they didn't. It looks like they had a mind to, since they made those notches/channels in the back of the hub which serve no purpose, at least not on this car and not on the newer impreza either since most people I've seen just go without and the few that do retain it just wrap the auto-canceler in electrical tape all ghetto-style so it's basically wedged inside the hub.

Haha. It's a florescent, doesn't get hot. I got sick and tired of those stupid incandescent bulbs blowing out when I dropped the light. That fluorescent can handle all kinds of drops and never burns me either. One of my best garage mods to date! Lasts like 100 times longer since I don't have to keep replacing dead bulbs.

It would make a nice upgrade. The metro wheel is massive. And its starting to degrade on the top from the sun.
