Ok, what you've all been waiting for......DYNO PLOTS!

The dyno plots can be a little confusing, especially when there are more parameters being plotted. I've tried to label the plots as best I can, but if you have questions let me know.

All the new dyno plots can be found here in my normal image gallery.

One of the plots shows the HP & torque with and without the SAE J1349 correction factor. Here is a little more information on the SAE J1349 correction factor.

Also, I've listed all the dyno plots below. (click image for hi-res version)

I like all the comparison data. Nice that the performance is better with less boost this time around.

The power output really gets put in perspective with the WRX/STi output curves.

You definitely squeezed out a pinch more then I did on my 91 SS running E85.....by like 5 wtq and 5 whp.
Great Numbers!

Thanks guys!!

Yeah it's definitely fun to drive, and while larger injectors and turbo would probably squeeze a little more power out of the engine with more boost, I'm sure I'd lose a bit of the low end power & add turbo lag. There is very little lag...the engine builds boost extremely quickly. I need to take some logs and will post some graphs of boost vs speed, etc. I believe I can even get 0-60 times from the data in the ECU.

All the different graphs and data really paint a picture for comparison. Dyno data is kind of useless without having that wide range of comparison data. You can definitely see that the heads (HLA's) really limit the higher rpm's. Even if the heads were ported I'm not sure I'd be able to pull or rev much more out of the motor. Anyone know if they make a conversion rocker assembly for the ej22t heads?

That is incredible Josh! I love seeing progress on the older cars. Maybe I should check-in more often...

And this is on stock 22t heads? You haven't got the bug to swap to dohc heads yet? Didn't that free up 30-40hp on a stock 22t for MMonson?

Thanks Tyler!

Yes this was on stock 22t heads with Delta Cams' 220 "Torque" grind. If I swap to DOHC heads I'll need a different intake manifold and will have to completely redo how everything is laid out and I do NOT want to do that. I know the heads are the limiting factor, but I just don't want to redo everything. If this motor goes I will seriously consider putting in an ej257 since the variable valve timing can provide a flatter torque curve across the entire rev range and I can use my same ECU to control it.

I'm hoping just to be able to happily drive my Legacy for a while without having modify/work on things :)

I got a slightly updated tune in the car this weekend to adjust some cold starting and spots in the MAP. The car felt good and when I was doing some testing I hit the rev limiter (very easy to do now) and due to the type of rev limiter and no cats I got a nice "pop" like you hear on the rally cars. I'll have to see if I can hook up my gopro camera near the rear of the car and get some video/sound of it. It sounds pretty wicked

I have done the same type of rev limiter bouncing in the RSTi, especially in 1st gear....sounds bad ass when it happens. That redline comes quick when you got some go juice....haha

On the rev limiter settings, do you have it set up as a soft fuel cut or hard? I think mine is set to soft cut over 200 RPM duration.

Josh you need to get the GoPro mic adapter, 3.5mm extension cord and then a 3.5mm lapel mic so you can get good pick up. Then you can keep the camera inside. Total cost is about 100 bucks but it is so worth it. GoPro mic sucks.

With the current MAP it's setup for hard cut using fuel. I had thought my previous MAPs were setup with a soft cut, so I need to check back in with the tuner to see if he changed it to a hard cut and why.

Tony,

I still have the old school GoPro Hero (Not 2, 3, or 4). Do you know if the lapel mic works with the original camera?

Looking online it looks like a no. They show the Hero 2 having a mic icon on the lower input but on the Hero 1 that icon isn't there.

Re: Legacy777's 1990 Legacy Turbo

Post by Legacy777 »

I had the car out today to do some logging and driving in the nice weather. It was warmer today and one of the things I noticed again was a fuel vapor smell. I had this occur before when temps were warmer. I attribute it to not having the auxiliary purge setup on the charcoal canister and the engine isn't sucking in the fuel vapors enough.

So I have a dilemma....what to do now. I can either cap off the lines and disable the canister purge and have very long hissing spells at the gas station or fab up something to run the auxiliary purge again. Or possibly see if there's some other solution out there.

Any ideas/thoughts?

I have the same problem. My fuel vapor line is just vented under the hood. Sometimes I smell fuel. But the odd thing is that I still get the hiss from the gas cap same as when that line had a cap on it. I think I will just cap it again. Better than having lingering fuel vapors for no reason. The hissing gas cap doesn't bother me as long as the pressure in the tank won't cause a problem. My ecu has no purge solenoid function I'm told.
