Did some fabbing over the weekend.

My neighbors must hate me, constant cutting/grinding Friday night thru Sunday night.

Cut/welded some angle iron and made the following radiator supports:
Image

I still need to drill holes and weld some locking nuts to the underside so I can bolt down the radiator to the mounts and finish welding the mounts on. I tacked them on for mock-up purposes, but everything lined up so well I'm not even going to bother cutting them out. I'll drill and weld everything the way it sits now.

I left a little distance between the top of the radiator and the support brace I made that connects to the headlight frames so I can throw some rubbers between the radiator tabs and the support brackets for some cushioning.

Image

The way it sits, the radiator protrudes about 3" pass the supporting structure. Looking at the way the bumper is, I don't think I'll have to cut anything from that once it goes back together, but we'll see when I go to put it back on.

Image

How the inlet/outlet matches up with the crossover pipe and the water pump. Given the protrusion of the ports on the griffiin radiator, I couldn't just sit the radiator on the old radiator support without having interference issues with the waterpump port and the bottom radiator port. So I moved the radiator about 3" forward, and it will sit about 2" higher which lines up the ports well as far as height is concerned. I'm pretty sure with this clearance I can slip a slim puller fan on the inside of the radiator and have enough clearance from the crank pulley.

There is no radiator cap/fill on the griffin radiator, so I was thinking I could get an expansion tank from any turbo Subaru and mount it where the A/C compressor would be. A/C is simply not an option at this point without some serious fab work. This works out well because there is a threaded inlet on the griffin radiator on that side of the radiator. I'd just have to plumb that up and find somewhere to put an overflow tank.

That is all for now.

This is the way I have the radiator and fan set-up.

Just used some slotted angle aluminum and some threaded studs to hold the fan in place.

Image

I reinforced the headlight frames with some angle iron because without the center radiator support there, there was pretty much no support.

I used that headlight support as a new upper radiator support for the radiator as well. I drilled some holes before I welded it in, and I just used some 1/4-20 couplers to support the radiator at the top. It is bolted to radiator mounts at the bottom as well, with some bushings at the bottom.

Done some fabbing the past couple weekends.

Opted to use 2.5" piping not realizing how little room there is to fit everything.

Such a pain in the ass fabbing everything. Lining up/tacking/welding a little bit/re-fitting to make sure everything still fits/final welding. Definitely a process. It would be nice to have a bender for nice smooth bends, but I don't so I've just been notching/sharp bends.

I have about 4' left to go, should have that finished this coming weekend.

Looking good! I may be assisting with an EG33/MegaSquirt build someday in the future, so it's nice to come here and see how yours is going on occasion.

When I build exhausts, I buy mandrel bent j-pipe and cut to get the bends I need. I think your way works as well, and is probably better than crush bent tubing. Here's one I did for my LS swapped truck:

Looks good!
^+1. A couple of mandrel bends from Columbia River Mandrel, or other online retailer, are pretty cheap. A guy can do a full system with just a couple of U-bends.

Necro bump.

Took this pup out today.

Funny thing, the motor will not run on the SVX MAF, but it will on the Legacy MAF.

I suspect an oil leak from the crank seal or the cam seals as the timing covers are seeping

The r :yuck: adiator set-up is working well. Never got over 190* at idle. Stays nice and cool when moving.

Trying to decide whether or not to go forward with this thing or get another/better shell. This thing is rusty, FWD, was drove through a fence, and it has developed a shaking in the steering. I replaced the ball joint a while back, but who knows, it did sit for quite some time.

In other words, it has seen better days and I feel like this motor deserves a much better home.
