pulled apart the motor tonight to take heads over to buddies house to swap cams and valve springs

The new style hydraulic tensioner - after looking closer today discovered it not only had oil around the pin but had about a 1/4 of play by hand. this will be swapped out for the old style tensioner when it all goes back together
Image

engine bay - needs to be cleaned and have a few wires tucked that were added in after the last time the motor was out
Image

heads - torn down and getting ver.4 sti cams and sti valve springs
Image

old DOHC NA cams that just came out
Image

motor torn down - with a certain purple legacy being worked on in the background

Little more work done today removed crank gear and old oil pump. the crank gear was a pain in the ass due to some sort of bearing compound the previous owner put between the gear and the crank. also removed the oil pan cleaned it up and resealed it.

Image
Image

then spent most of my night cleaning up the engine bay. relocated my boost switch (pressure activated switch that at 7psi completes a circuit that turns on my intercooler sprayer) and redid the wiring for that. also rewired my fog lights in preparation for the H3 3000k HID's i got for them. and because since my original swap my cruise control doesnt i work i fifnally got around to remoing all the cables and control boxes

lots of work done today and it was payday so picked up all my parts from the dealer
grabbed the sti oil pump and o-ring, front crank seal, coolant crossover o-rings, downpipe gasket, head gaskets, all turbo crush washers, clutch release bearing springs, fuel rail o-rings and from the auto parts store i work at i grabbed a timing kit with all pulleys and belt and grabbed both coolant sensors and oil pressure sensor

Image

ill do a better write up later im exhausted after a 9 hour day in the garage

Looks good. Especially the patch harness!

Your not adding AVCS or any other oil comsuming device over stock. So, unless you really opened up your bearing clearances, you only need a small bump in oil pump capacity - if any.

not a huge update since last time as i took a break over the weekend from working on my car to working on my dads car :P

so since my chassis is a 93 shell and the harness is from a 92 turbo car the abs plugs were different on the harness so i have never had ABS. finally took the time to T off my brake lines and clean it up and remove the ABS pump
Image

cleaned up motor and heads on. coolant tank relocate to front of intake manifold to allow clearance for top mount
Image

TD05 mounted up
Image

and greddy catch can that is going to go where the abs pump was

since my modification to the U8 ecu worked so well to mount it in stock location we decided to do the same thing to my brothers ( bmxkelowna ) drift car, this time taking a few pics to show you guys
( sorry we missed pictures for a few steps)

first thing you have to do is take apart the casing from your stock ecu and new ecu pulling the board out of the new ecu by removing the two outer screws.

the stock brackets are spot welded on so just drill those out to remove brackets giving you a nice smooth surface
Image
take the stock ecu and cut the outer ridges off so you are left with a nice smooth surface with the two mounting studs
Image
take your favourite adhesive and attach the two cases together. you can tack weld these together but in our case we used really good double sided tape
Image
finished product after you bolt case back together is stock size and now can be nicely tucked into stock location

That's a pretty neat way to retrofit the ECU.
