If you are running a manual transmission I don't think it should be an issue having nothing connected to B48.20.

Jumper pins 11 & 12 on the b15 trans connector. Not 1&4.

When I have just 11&12 jumped the gear indicator isn’t illuminated at all, which I took as it not knowing what gear the car is in, therefore not allowing it to start. When I also jump 1&4 it illuminates neutral. This is assuming that it matters what the cluster reads.

Also finally was able to remove my steering column surround without breaking it, so I could get to the key interlock controller. As soon as I took the cover off, the key was no longer stuck and im not sure why. Also, the diagram that I am working from does not look exactly the same as mine.

My setup:

I imagine that wire is for the solenoid and I can just unplug it, correct?

Joe,

I'd recommend putting a little rubber boot over that post on the alternator.

Regarding the key interlock controller, you don't need to do anything with lock cylinder on the column. You just need to remove the controller box. I have three pictures of the plastic box on my write-up. The link should take you right there.

If not, this is what you need to remove:

3. Which one of these is the B15 trans connector, and what is the bottom connector?

The 4x3 middle connector is the B15 transmission connector.

This is how the B15 connector is oriented/numbered when looking at the chassis side wiring harness.

I really recommend you slow down and take the time to read and understand the wiring diagrams on my write-up.

Sublimejoe wrote:It seems my ecu does not have a wire going to pin 20 on the b48 connector. Josh, I see you said to snip OR add a wire, but where should that added wire go?

Image

You have the correct pin identified as pin 20. Since there is no pin there you need to add one. My suggestion would be to get a spare pin from a junkyard ECU connector or maybe someone has one. Open the tab on the connector and put the new pin/wire in there and connect the other end to ground. That will tell the ECU it's now a MT.

Sublimejoe wrote:Another issue I have run across today. I went to snip the wire going to pin18 of the B36 connector and unless I am mistaken, I do not have this wire either:

These wires are coming from the manual transmission:

Is the picture of the B36 connector the male or female connector?

Is this a dual range transmission, or does it have an electronic speed sensor? Any chance you could take a picture of where the wires go into the transmission? You should have a neutral & reverse switch. Beyond that, I'm not sure what the other connector is unless it's for the electronic speed sensor.

Sublimejoe wrote:I think I was looking at the connector diagram upside down or something. But either way, I jumped pins 1&4 of the B15 trans connector and now the cluster is showing the car is in neutral! It still does not crank, but thats a step in the right direction.

Image

I used some jumper cables to see if the starter is working, and it indeed is working.

Main issues right now:

Pin18 on B36 does not have a wire going to it
Pin20 on B48 ECU connector also does not have a wire going to it

Jumpering pins 1 & 4 together is going to make the neutral light go on in the dash, that's it. Pins 11 & 12 will allow the engine to crank/start.

What the cluster reads doesn't matter.

Look at the page below. Do you see where it notes pins 11 & 12 and ignition circuit. The other pins don't do anything else when you are MT.

Well thanks to some help and some more help from Josh the car fired up today! It only has a header on it right now because of the crossmember situation so I only let it run for a few seconds. This is supposed to be a video of the car running, but for some unknown reason it is not.

Image

I am so super stoked that it finally starts. Need to grab a few things from auto parts store and I should be just about ready to drive it!

Also wired up my power folding mirrors today:

Picked up a fuel filter today. Instantly realized that the bracket I tossed a couple months ago was for this.

This connector is right next to the MAF sensor and I cannot figure out what it goes to:

I wonder if it's the connector for the brake light float on the MC. I keep forgetting things are reversed since it's a RHD.

are you planning on removing the rear window? I made the mistake of pulling mine off when I wrapped my car and you cant install the bottom molding while the glass is still in the car. the good news is that I was able to get a brand new molding from Subaru just haven't been able to put it on yet

Thursday Night Update!

Drained the fuel and then put a couple of gallons of good fuel in. Started the car up, but it dies after 7-10 seconds. I haven't had the time yet to troubleshoot what could be causing this, especially because its still open header and my neighbors already hate me so so much.

It runs, and stays running! The problem ended up being just bad fuel.

I can’t drive it yet because I need to change the tie rod ends and can’t get them off. I’ve tried pb blaster and a torch but they won’t budge.

If I fail again tomorrow I’ll have the car trailered to the shop right down the street to have them do it, and then an alignment.

Are you using a propane or MAP gas torch? MAP gas is going to get hotter if you want to try.
