Thanks for clearing that up for me, Well you win some you lose some i guess........ On another note i got it to fire up first try! and everything is in good order mechanically its a very healthy motor im having some issues with things not being properly connected and some vacuum line differences from the diagram anyways check out the video im very happy to have gotten this far on my own but i definatley need help and good advice on the rest of the stuff i need to do check it out click the image below

So in the video the car was running great first start and did have any (CEL's) one i first drove it it ran very poorly lots of hesitation and an extremely poor and crazy idle once warmed up and would not build boost im figuring i have a few things/ maybe a few vacuum lines hooked up incorrectly it is drivable ish i drove it a few miles to work for a few days babying celebrating the work iv done thus far but i have now parked the car and am re tearing in to it i pulled the codes from the ecu !!

#22 Knock sensor
#24 Air control valve
#32 Oxygen sensor
#35 Canister purge solenoid valve
#44 Duty solenoid valve (Waste gate control)

and these two listed as the same code??

#45 Atmospheric pressure sensor
#45 Pressure sensor and pressure exchange solenoid valve

Now iv already eliminated the 02 code it wasn't fully plugged in and i changed out the knock sensor for my ej22t one that worked no change any ideas guys would not having the vacuum lines properly hooked up cause most of these issues iv stumped

To me, it sounds more like the coolant temperature sensor - the one that feeds the computer, not the gauge.

They do go bad. They run about $15-$20 on Rockauto.com. On these cars, I don't trust codes much.

If you can read the ECU parameters, you can test by watching the reported engine temp. It should rise as the motor warms up. Check out this (http://www.vwrx.com/index.php?pg=selectmonitor) and this (http://www.alcyone.org.uk/ssm/sma.html)

I find that once you set yourself up to read parameters directly from the ECU, troubleshooting for most everything is much faster. However, in the FSM there is also a method for testing almost every sensor with just a multimeter.

Running well when cold, but progressively worse as the motor warms up is an indicator that the ECU 'doesn't know' the car is warming up and is still in it's 'choke' routine.

Nice build! You'll get it all figured out sooner or later. Planning on doing any ECU mods to unlock all that sweet EJ20G power?

The SS 5MT transmission will be fine if you treat it nice. I had a TD05/18psi EJ22T with a stock 250,000 mile SS trans and never broke it. It's all about smoothly shifting and releasing the clutch before applying power when shifting and never launching it.

Just thought you might like to know that your wheels aren't actually WRX wheels, they are 4th gen Legacy GT wheels.

After that video i drove it to work one more night and parked it and pulled the manifold off and am starting the check the wiring harness and affected sensors

checking the iac plug

i was wondering this having a jecs IAC could it not be working with my Hitachi ecu ?
Image

i also removed the ecu to take a look at the wiring dont know why people fuss about this it was a piece of cake
Image
Image

also i may have found why my knock sensor is throwing a code its got this weird wire sheilded?? that's been cut and twisted together in two places covered with blue tape sorry for the crappy pics but as you can see..............

It was a little hard to follow the vacuum lines during the video. If you can draw out something in MS Paint that would be helpful.

It's fine that you have a JECS IAC and a hitachi ECU.

The knock sensor produces a very low voltage signal and to keep electro magnetic interference (EMF) from screwing up the signal there is that wire mesh (shield wire) around the signal wire. It's hard to see in the picture how they have that jumpered. Ultimately as long as that wire mesh is properly hooked up to the ECU it should be ok. Most of your EMF will occur in the engine bay, so if the shield is unwrapped, as long as it's still connected it should be ok.

I would recommend checking the resistance of the knock sensor wire from the ECU connector to the connector in the engine bay.

Alright ill check that i swapped my other coolant temp sensor on also!!! actually waiting on a better quality multimeter to arrive in the mail in the mean time i got a few things done got the intake manifold painted something iv always wanted to do i reinstalled everything and have it almost all back together with new intake manifold gaskets still waiting on a new down pipe gasket i ordered as well

and after a few day or so to dry not to shabby

getting everything reinstalled

got some new intake manifold gaskets as well ej25d gaskets where a perfect match ej20g on the top ej25d on the bottom

I like the fact your garbage can is your paint stand ;)

Regarding the multi-meter test leads. I just use an extra piece of longer wiring connected to one of the test leads. I then will shove that wire in the connector for the knock sensor and then use the other lead on the ECU connector.

You just want to connect the shield wire to pin B56.4. You do not want to ground it.

Yes, you just wrap the shielding up with tape.
