installation ?s regarding a V2 TMIC

Post by greg donovan »

i have had a slanted V2 TMIC in my garage for about a year now and will finally have the extra cash AND time to get the damn thing in there.

any tips?

do i need to make a mounting bracket for it or do the hoses keep it in place? in its last installation before i bought it the mounting brackets were cut off of it.

do i need to move the coolant res. for this to fit?

is the clutch fluid cyl. in the way for this one?

thanks in advance,
greg

Not sure if it will help but here is a pic of a V2 TMIC on a swapped SS - PM Aerotech to find out how everything fits.

yeah i have eyballed lots of pics but they dont really tell me much and it seems that many people that own the cars with them on it arent the ones who put it on.

is the throttle body farther over towards the drivers side on aerotech's car?

Well having a EJ20G in my car I can tell you the t-body is basically centered on the intake manifold (L-R of course).

uh... slanty IC's are a "unhappy woman" to install.

if i can remember right, you have to shave (cut) down our stock throttle bodies and hammer the firewall (which is kinda fun) and relocate the coolant tank... and i dont know how the Y goes on it but you will have to fab something up from there too..

just do an 06 wrx one

I don't think the TB needs any mods. That's for a 2002-ish WRX intercooler, I believe.

I'm collecting parts for a slant i/c install, too. Here's what comes to mind:

- relocate the igniter
- relocate the coolant tank. I think turning it 90 degrees is enough.
- remove one bracket from the i/c to clear the coolant tank? May not be necessary.
- clutch reservoir may be in the way on some cars. this can be solved by a later offset reservoir that is a direct fit.
- AC line may need to be forcibly adjusted (bent), only on some cars.
- move some hoses and/or harness to under the pitch stop.
- coupler to TB and inlet hoses are generally enough so that mounting brackets are not required.

That's just from memory, but I think that's the main issues.

? the "y" as the slantys I owned had a single inlet more like a retarded "L".

I went the route of the slanty awhile ago.

Ultrasonic is correct in the mods that have to be performed.

Sadly, the slanty is not very big and it seemed to me that the air through the small hood scoop was not directed very well for this intercooler.

You will have to do the same mods for an 06+ wrx intercooler and it sits right underneath the scoop- being a better fit as far as usefulness.

But if anyone wants one, I do have an original WRX-slanty diversion plate for under the scoop.

You can try and make it fit.
I gave up and went to the 06 IC

took another look at this today.

it appears that the way the tanks are designed the clutch res would not need to be modded.

the coolant expansion tank does need to be moved. mine is broken and fixled with a 2 dollar fix that hs lasted for nearly 2 years so maybe it is time to get a metal WRX tank now and move it over to where the now defunct ABS unit sits.
