That's been discussed here before in another thread. In fact I think I may have been the one asking about that before, I can't remember.

It's been used by members here before but I believe you have to modify it. Like cut it somehow or something.

I think that first picture that won't load used to be the picture of what you're talking about.

NO!!!!!!!!!

Get a silicone Y-pipe, they're way easier to work with. Even if you use an '06 intercooler, a silicone Y-pipe for an '02-'05 will make the install easier.

Just make sure you buy an intercooler with the pipes on it. What turbo are you using? If you're using VF11, you're going to have to modify your y piping anyways.

The silicone y pipes are spendy. I spent like $85 shipped for my samco set. I think it was used too. I may not end up using it though. Now that I have the JDM slanty, we'll see. I have the 02-03 intercooler, the 06-07 intercooler and now the 97 JDM slanty intercooler.

eek, i have a track day coming up and this time I want the car to be ripping hard, and I am not 100% sure running stage 2 even in normal mode with no IC is safe. Going on the 29th so still have some time. Need to make decisions fast!! So silicone hmm, but I still need the inlets!!

Just wait, I wouldn't run it without the intercooler. There will always be more track days.

What turbo do you have?

Yes, the silicon Y-pipe is the best, but $$.

You're on the same path as me - one year later.

I bought the Y-pipe in your ebay link (it's cheaper than a year ago!). Installed w/an '06 WRX IC, connected to my TD04. The short/straight piece is too short; I ended up using a 'hump hose' piece to connect it.

The old '02 IC is not an easy fit, as you'll find out on here....as did I and that's why it's for sale.

Yeah, I've been trying to sell my old 02 intercooler but nobody wants it.

Well, I looked at mine and it seems like it will fit just fine. I might have to just trim the end of the IC to make a it a tad bit shorter. As long as you have the A/C line that doesn't have that bump in it, it should work and move the igniter. I am on the stock turbo still.

Grr don't want to spend a crap load on the IC. It will be $60 for a intake or $80 and make a 06 wrx IC work with stock inake... Already spent $20 on the 04 wrx IC.

@wtdash: the intake did work with the stock turbo though right? I can get ahold of pipes to extend things.

Not sure what part of the intake you mean....RU Referring to the Y-pipe connection?

Either way, I never ran the stock turbo w/an IC, so can't comment.

I'm actually testing another VF11 tonite, so I'll see how my '06 IC/y-pipe and stock turbo fits...not well, I'm guessing.

Lol. Do you honestly think that's a crap load to spend on an intercooler? If you don't do it the right way now I guarantee you'll end up spending more to make it right later. Even $200-300 isn't really much to spend on an intercooler setup considering the power gains vs. not running one. Suck it up and buy what you know you need! :)

See if these help - '06 IC, Ebay Y-pipe kit and VF11:

Here it is installed w/a TD05, which is the same/very similar to a TD04:

Y-pipe connection w/'hump' hose:

Y-pipe connection w the ebay kit's straight hose. You can see how it's kinked and short:

Is it even possibly to hook it up to a stock turbo with any y pipe?! I think I will still try just using rad hose and use only one of the ports.

Someone has done it before... but the tubing was some crazy angle that required a LOT of time/trial and error.

It's going to blow out and won't withstand the heat+oil.
