Y pipe questions

I was searching around and I kind of got the jist of what needs to be done, but I had a couple questions.

I have a FXT intercooler with a stock y pipe, and I saw in an old thread someone mentioned it fits, also in a more recent one that you can clamp it down really hard to make it fit. I don't want to clamp it down like that, seems like it wouldn't work well, but is the placement all correct? So could I just weld up a pipe exactly the same shape as the y pipe but a couple inches shorter so I could use a silicon coupler?

Also, the stock chargepipe(is that what it's called? The piece coming off the throttle body that has to be removed). That's what I'm replacing with the intercooler correct? So if the Y pipe routed to the same spot the chargepipe goes to, of course taking into account that it's moved back some, that is what I'm aiming for correct?

Just looking to make this go a little smoother, but since I got the intercooler for $10 and I'm broke, I don't want to spend $70+ on a Y pipe.
