Factory FMIC

Post by Elcapitan »

I noticed that I have a factory FMIC(I think) on my MY91 RS(JDM spec) and I wanted to know what my modding options were. Like what would I need to make it bigger and how complicated would it be?

Are you referring to the Air to water heat exchanger mounted in front of the car?

Yes, you have an air-to-water intercooler. It combines the benefits of a FMIC and TMIC. From what I've read from the guys over there, they are good to about 300 hp. More than that, you need to upgrade the front exchanger or pump.

Great to hear. How much would an exchanger run me for? I'd like one that would be visible from the front (kinda like an evo - but a sub) What of a pump? Where is the pump located? Lastly, would I need to upgrade the pipes that run from the IC water fill thingy to the exchanger or is that irrelevant?

Thanx for the quik replies

The cost all depends on what you can find. I had to have one custom made to fit the dimensions I needed.

The pump is located under the battery. The pipes/hoses are fine.

I'd suggest searching/asking the guys over on www.rslibertyclub.org/forums as they have more experience with upgrading the AWIC setups.

FYI, I just replaced the stock intercooler pump with one from the Ford Lightning. The stock pump was getting progressively louder over the past few years and finally it got extremely loud (you could even hear it cruising on the highway).
