Is 2300 too much for this 1991 Turbo, Automatic?

Post by ButterYourOwBagel »

Hi guys, long time lurker here. I have the opportunity to buy an automatic 1991 turbo legacy with 131000. I dont have pics up but it's only got two owners. Essentially, the paint is in pretty good shape, the body does have at least three dents, the biggest of which is where the driver fender is somewhat separated from the door. He's asking 2300 is that too much? What would be reasonable?

Here's what the add says:

1991 Subaru Turbo Legacy Sedan 4WD. 131,000 miles. This was Granny's car from new, she is now too old to drive. She dented all body panels so the cosmetics are not perfect but the car has been well maintained and is excellent mechanically.

New tires, new struts, new water pump. Interior seats are excellent though the seat covers are worn. Minor problems are door locks, sketchy stereo and a trunk leak. Otherwise A/C, PS, Power windows, lights are excellent. Automatic transmission, cruise control.

This will be a very reliable car as these models have been known to travel 250,000 miles and more without engine or transmission work.

Depends on what you want it for. If you want a reliable and efficient commuter, stay away! If you want a car that will make you smile, this could be it. Depending on your mechanical skills (or lack of) this car could also run you into the poor house!

There are almost no Legacy specific modifications left for it. 90% of the car is the same as the non turbo models which helps. The turbo specific stuff is basically unobtanium, though this site can help you find what you need. The front hood, trunk spoiler and front bumper are turbo specific, but all other body pieces are common to the other 90-91 legacys.

In stock form, it makes less HP, but a little more torque than an outback or forester. But it requires premium.

Once again, if you have decent mechanical and troubleshooting skills, and tools and a place to work on it, this is an interesting relic from Subaru's past. If not, it's gonna bankrupt you.

With dented body panels and deteriorating stock components it's worth less than $1k in my opinion. They are super fun cars to drive though.
