Wideband Question

I have posted once before about o2 sensors, can anyone recomend a spacific brand or do you have a part number i can use to find a good one with. Thanks all

Innovate Motorsports' wideband has always worked well for me. It also seems to have the most compatibility with aftermarket engine management, if that matters to you.

I haven't installed it yet but I got the Zeitronix ZT-2 with the ZR2 display (digital display). It's nice because you can log a total of five channels if you want, including the O2, EGT, and three seperates. It also has an accessory that you can use to program the unit to trigger a relay dependant on if/then statements on the 5 inputs.

I've heard good things about it and I'm anxious to get it going. I've also heard good things about the Innovate systems as well.

The Innovate motorsports offer the LC1 with the bosch lsu4.2 is that what you are running? Are you running stand alone or something like that ?

I'm running the LC-1 with the G3 analog gauge. It's also wired into my AEM piggyback, but only for logging purposes.

Do you need EM to run a wideband?

No. Most EM's like to have a wideband input into them. However, most wideband's are standalone systems and any car that's being tuned or tweak significantly should have one. You just buy the system and install it.

I see. I should get one. So the sensor is just ran all the time and is hooked up to a gauge?

My sm-afr from PLX devices, is meh. The display freezes sometimes. It's AWESOME when you are full throttle hauling ass then look down and see 16.5, back off the throttle and lose your rythm. I heard the LC1 tells you when the sensor is kaput too.

Jordan, you are correct. The sensor runs full time and outputs to a gauge/display in the cabin. The display/gauge options vary depending on make/model/manufacturer. Many of them have a narrowband output for your ECU but it is generally recommended to run it seperate from your stock O2 system.

After reading various reviews of widebands online from car magazine, LC-1 is the best for accuracy/response. Most can't even detect with the wideband goes bad like the LC-1 either.

This might sound foolish but how does the wideband tie into your ECU? Do you have to have both a narrowband and a wideband or does the wideband connect to you ECU through the factory wirring?

Most widebands have a narrow band O2 sensor output to go to the factory ECU. This allows you to put the wide band in the spot of the narrow band. If you want to put a second O2 bung on the exhaust, then you can have both wired in.

Many of the widebands will have an output from the controller that simulates a narrowband signal. This you would connect to the factory wireing harness.

It should be noted though that there are very distinct mixed results. Also, you generally place your wideband a little further downstream of the stock location (due to overheating issues) so you aren't trying to shove two sensors in the same spot. This means there isn't neccesarily a reason to eliminate the stock one, unless you just want to for clarity/cleanliness.
