Which CPSI cat to use?

Post by 93Leg-c »

I'm planning on obtaining a metallic substrate catalytic converter to hook it up to my Bosal (uncatted) downpipe. I want a high-flowing exhaust but I don't want the exhaust to smell; I want it like the OEM system. Does anyone know which CPSI (cells per square inch) metallic cat I need to use -- 200, 300, 400, or more? If I need to go 400 CPSI or higher, would it be better to use two lower-CPSI cats instead of one higher-CPSI cat? I tried searching for the answer but haven't found it.

Thanks for any help you can give.

That may be something you might want to ask the manufacturer of the cat. I'm not sure what the stock cat setup is like.

I used a magnaflow 59959 on my car. I am not sure what the cpsi is on that cat but I don't get any smell and passed the e-test I just did with flying colors.

passed the e-test with just that cat and my car has deltacams on the stock ecu.

Josh222, thanks for that info and pics! Research shows the 59959 is 200 cpsi. It's good to know it doesn't produce a smell.

BTW, did you weld in the bungs and the cat yourself or did someone else do it? If someone else did, I'm just wondering about how much it cost?

Thanks!

I did that myself at work so I am not sure how much a shop would charge for that. Up next is replacing my Blitz Nur Spec catback with something a little quieter and subtle :D Blitz Nur is neither quiet nor subtle :-D
