Humor me (WRX mid-pipe + muffler)

Post by Danteandsoob »

So, the parts car I bought came with a borla clone header; if I had a shop fab a j-pipe with a bung and cat, then have them move/extend the mid-pipe and hangers, and fit the muffler.

Would this work? Also it's for an N/A car.

So is that bolted up to a WRX midpipe, or to the existing midpipe?

This is the borla rep and forester cat. I bolted it up to an aftermarket SS exhaust. Its been said many times on here though, that if you want to use WRX/STi stuff, it will need some cutting/modifying.

Right, right. I guess it's better then having a shop fab something custom w/a cat.

Exactly. I got my forester cat for $30 on CL. It has 2 O2 sensors, so I just left the rear one in, but snipped the wires. It sounds great and I got a nice little power boost from all this!

So you saw some power gains from the exhaust swap? great!

Well, I had this going on: https://vimeo.com/116279878

So running open header on one side, the other running to a cat with 280k on it, to a rusted through tiny stock exhaust. The exhaust I went with is a 2.5" setup. I still keep backpressure, while sounding good :)

Hopfully ill get to UPAP tomorrow to grab a similar cat section. I realize that adding a cat is bad, but i'd rather put it on an forget about it :P

After I change the header my custom skidplate will go in :-D

You won't be able to buy a cat section used, from any business.. Its illegal and carries thousands of dollars in fines for the company.

That being said, used cats change hands all the time on craigslist and elsewhere.
