Exhaust compatibility for 92 Legacy EJ20G

Post by JimBos Legacy »

Does anybody know if this is a direct bolt on? Or will I need to weld on hangers. Any advice would help or if you have a down pipe that is a direct bolt on for our cars that’d be great, thanks.

that will bolt on directly to the turbo and the transmission and exhaust. the differences are where the 02 sensor is, so you might need a longer lead to the sensor. also its a bit longer than the stock downpipe so if you are sticking with the stock exhaust, it will need to be shortened somewhere.
i have the tsudo downpipe on my 93 wagon and i found that the bottom corner of the downpipe is bit more pronounced that the stock piece. its not terrible but i have a buddy with a tig, so we cut a wedge out of the pipe to make the angle less extreme and tuck it up to the car a little better. i might be able to take some pics that can illustrate it if you need.

I’ve always heard that the USDM exhausts were longer than JDM, and pictures of that would help! Thanks

wait, pictures of what exactly? as far as the length, i just cut off a 3 or so inch section of piping and rewelded it back to the muffler.
as far as the wedge i cut off to change the angle of the downpipe, that wasnt necessary to get it to fit, it fit great before that. im just ocd and had a tig set up handy haha

If I were to get a full turbo back exhaust system for the 02 WRX do you think it’d all fit? I’d probably have to weld some new hangers and get that extension for the o2 sensor, but do you think that would work

i wanna say the length might still be different along with the different hangers. that scenario im not sure of only because i had exhaust made for my car, it wasnt a complete kit.

So if I were to do it, I’d probably just have take it to an exhaust shop and get them to piece it together

that would be my suggestion, find a muffler you like and then take it to a muffler shop and have them weld up a 3 inch exhaust. id say with the muffler and the exhaust built it was 250 to 300 bucks for me
