We have installed forged pistons in some engines and we have had a problem with a few brands. Now JE pistons have redesigned theirs after we told them over and over that the rings were too low. These people have a very good product and we are going back to them for the next motor we do.

???? Funny you should mention JE. I spoke to them last week and they told me that they have not made a forged piston for an EJ22t. They told me that I would have to send them an original piston and still have to fill out some custom piston order form. Didn't sound to me like they had much experience with the later gen. subies.

They probably don't keep records but they will make them and they have. There hasn't been the demand for EJ22t pistons like there has been for EJ25. This probably is due to production numbers but the EJ22t pistons are better than most cast pistons, the factory refers to them as being "of the thermaloy design and construction" what that means I do not know but they are better than the n/a EJ22 or the EJ25. Plus there is a jet of oil squirted at the bottom of the piston for cooling purposes. The ej22t we have running about 420hp is using stock pistons.

ok, sounds good. I will try to get stock pistons. I think I need some that are slighly oversided (about .025m over) Also, do you know anything about wrist pin busshings???? My machinest says that they are worn out of spec but when I was at the subaru dealer they didn't show a part in the book. He said if I couldn't find any he could just machine a honda one to fit or something. Do you have any input on this???

I am rebuilding one of my EJ22t engines with a lot of guidance from a person that has been building these engines for 27 years. I did ask him about wrist pins and he told me that they were trouble free and did not have to be replaced. The factory manual gives the specs on clearance as 0.001 -0.013mm 0.00004-0.000051 in. and that the piston pin must be fitted into position with thumb at 20degrees C (68F). I haven't heard of any wrist pin problems but..........
